Pioneers of African-American Cinema: The End of an Era (2016)
*** (out of 4)
This six-minute featurette closes out the Kino release of Pioneers of African-American cinema and is an interview with film historian Jacqueline Najuma Stewart who discusses a wide range of topics in regards to race films. She talks about how this set shows that blacks were interesting in doing a wide range of films with different topics and settings. She talks about the importance of these movies and why so many of the artists need to be rediscovered. There's a great section with her talking about the end of the race movies as well. If you've made it through the five-disc set then this here is the perfect way to close things out. Once again Stewart comes across with a great bit of knowledge and she's certainly makes you very interested in checking the films out as well as giving them the respect that they deserve.
