The worst 'horror' anthology
Leofwine_draca16 March 2018
Warning: Spoilers
DEVIL'S DRAIN is an appallingly bad indie horror anthology and one that hails from Italy. The first thing you notice is the terrible picture quality quickly followed by the terrible sound quality. The stories featured are absolutely stupid, centred around kids, and feature actors wearing stupid masks and putting on silly voices. It's generally tiresome and just drags on and on until the end credits finally, thankfully roll.

Amazing

Amazing labyrinthine plot. Maybe too complex to be enjoyed by modern generations public, addicted to CGI movies with poor scripts. I personally am a psychoanalyst and I very much appreciated the deep inner investigation of the sick mind, the true protagonist of the film. Hate it or love it.

One of the best indie movies of all time
IndependentMagazine24 December 2021
Over the past 20 years, independent films have increased dramatically, especially in a genre much loved by young people: horror. In this context, the stories that have been proposed, for at least 10 years now, are usually centered on two fundamental themes: serial killers and haunted houses. There are very good products from the point of view of tension and surprise, the problem is that there is no longer a real plot, but a series of scares. The stories all look alike and lack a true artistic depth and content to discuss. DEVIL'S DRAIN is completely different from all this, being a film with an extremely complex dramatic plot and fundamentally based on psychoanalytic allegories. It has nothing to do with the immediacy and stylistic simplicity of the many photocopied films, that every year always propose the same canvas, with the sole purpose of transmitting a thrill to the viewer through the classic twist, so exploited and presented in different sauces. But by now everyone knows when it arrives. A leap in the chair, a liberating smile, and everything passed like water on marble, with the total absence of content to reflect on. DEVIL'S DRAIN is a hallucinating journey into the terrible meanders of mental disorders, childhood traumas and unpredictable mechanics of the unconscious. It is not comparable to any other horror film, but it is a visionary and abstract work of art that inhabits a world of its own, light years away from the disposable meteors produced in a schematic way, for an audience addicted to the lack of ideas. They perhaps has forgotten that cinema is still an art.

Pretty Good.....Crazy Strange

Zero Budget but Lots of Ideas!!!!

Very strange film, on any level: plot, picture, soundtrack, characters.........but I liked it so much!!!!

Personally, I like so much strange movies......... Maybe it had to be more "flowing" in some passages, too many "symbolic" actions and sequences, sometimes too difficult to comprehend. I had to watch it a second time to catch more shades and meanings of its "psychological quests". But I think that some scenes, still mysterious to me, were meant to remain mysterious. I mean, there's no "real" explanation for some elements of that strange twisted plot.

Pretty Good.....Crazy Strange.

....never seen before
evercrimson13 May 2023
I watched this movie at "Another Hole in the Head" film festival in San Francisco and I sincerely didn't understand the plot, as it was a strange bad joke. Then I decided to buy the DVD and watch it again. There's an unusual set of chapters.....and that's the key to me! I tried to watch it mixing up the chapters sequence in different ways, and it got clear! I think this is a kind of puzzle. So I found out two different interpretations of the movie, at least. One is a sort of fierce pungent satire of the world society of the last two decades of the last century. The other is an original reinterpretation of Slavic folklore myths. Knowing that a friend of mine got the DVD, like me, I proposed her to watch this movie together and try to discover other possible reading keys. Sadly, I found out that the DVD edition she bought has a worse image and audio quality, probably due to a bad management of the burning process. However, I'll keep watch.....
