Unusual, but not badjourney into the universe of Pokemon

Warning: Spoilers
"The Uncut Story of Mewtwo's Origin" is an animated short film from 1999, so this one is already almost 20 years old now, and it takes us into the world of Pokemon, but not in a way you'd usually expect if you are familiar with the show. Cannot say much about the movies. I will spare you the surprisingly many names who made this film and who appeared in it as voice actors now, so lets take a look at the story. Team Rocket is usually as incompetent as it gets, at least their two main representatives, but here we find out about a pretty capable scientist who is in danger of losing everything when his beloved daughter dies so he tries to use his studies with the help of Pokemon to find a way to clone his daughter and bring her back to life this way somehow in a desperate attempt to start all over again. But things are certainly not this easy as we find out at the very end. This short has half the running time of a Pokemon episode and you can watch it quickly if you want to, but it is much deeper, much more serious than these episodes with death, desparation, cloning, grief and other subjects playing a key role. It probably also fits that the central Pokemon is of psycho type. There is no Ash or Misty in here, but you see some of the most famous Pokemon on several occasions, even if they are basically just floating in the sky and not playing a key role. It is about Mewtwo only, but that is fine. One Pokemon at the key of the sory is enough really. What else can I add. Oh yeah, it is a Japanese production, but I watched the English dub. Did not like the main character / narrator too much in terms of his voice, but it is nothing that destroys the film. The visual side is still pretty impressive and the story has a lot to offer too and I think this film is a good choice to be seen than once though, even if it is definitely not flawless. However, it is a good briedge and prologue to a Pokemon full feature film from the franchise's early days and I recommend checking it out. Thumbs up, even if I have never been too big on Mewtwo.!

There's a reason this story was cut

On its own, this short story is a good introduction to a villain with enough emotional depth to garner sympathy from the audience. However, the final version of Pokemon: The Movie showed a very different Mewtwo character, so it is obvious that this version of the intro was removed primarily to prevent inconsistencies with the character's personality.
