Fails to impress! [+35%]

Warning: Spoilers
One doesn't really expect novelty with respect to the storyline or its treatment in a Raffi directorial but what one does expect is a strong dose of situational slapstick. Fahadh choosing to play the lead in a Raffi comedy in 2017 actually raised more amusement than delight.

The synopsis is as good as a dead soldier on a horse. It keeps meandering as long as the horse stays alive, but for no good reason. The counter-dialogues from Sharafudheen, Vinayakan and Vinay Forrt do bring the house down on a few occasions but there's not a single memorable scene in the whole film. The film plods along from one subplot to the other, from one set of characters to the next, with no apparent explanation. Namitha Pramod looks the part of an adventure sports enthusiast but her character just like the rest of the ensemble is underwritten.

The screenplay does not really warrant the skills of an actor like Fahadh, who ends up repeating his 'North 24 Kaatham' act, rather halfheartedly. The music by Gopi Sunder is subpar as well, and the much talked about 'Thechille' song serving no real purpose whatsoever. I have seen better work from Shamdat (Uttama Villain, Ayal Njanalla) too. To be honest, there is a blatant attempt on part of the writer/director to twist every single dialogue to seemingly make it appear comical, and this fails big time..especially when scenes that relate to serious issues such as career decisions, relationships and other matters are instantaneously followed by tasteless slapstick.

The movie's outlook on marriages, LGBT and skin-color is downright derogatory (at times). Oh, and the climax where a much-loved character of yesteryear is brought back in a cameo..a disastrously bad decision. If you're the kind who giggles listening to badly written one-liners whose sole intention is to raise some kind of reaction, then 'Role Models' is for you. Frankly, even the supposed 'humor' fails to impress!

A Mediocre Low-Brow Comedy
afsalthodupuzha25 July 2017
As there weren't better films to choose from for a movie outing with family,I decided to try "Role Models" even after hearing negative response from the majority in my friend's circle.Fahadh Faasil joining hands with Raffi for a brainless comedy looks totally odd on paper and the result too isn't inspiring, being a strictly passable film that's saved up-to an extent by few good one-line jokes and the good rapport between the lead cast.

Predictable from the word go,Raffi's screenplay is half-baked and tries to address quiet a lot of issues, turning pointless after few minutes into the narrative. The necessary connect that the plot demanded between all such issues was missing and gave way for a heavily clichéd conclusion.

The saving grace here is low-brow counters and slapstick comic situations that manages to evoke laughs even though only in bits and parts in the narration.Sharafudheen in particular was pretty impressive and showcased good comic timing along with Vinayakan who gave good support.Fahadh Faasil's character looked like an extension of Harikrishnan from North 24 Kaatham [2013] with the talented actor trying his best to portray a character with multiple dimensions, but with partial success. The celebrated character "Ramanan" from yesteryear super-hit 'Punjabi House'[1998] reappeared in a cameo that was totally dull and avoidable.

Songs and background score by Gopi Sunder were good with the pick among the songs being the romantic duet "Theru There" rendered well by Najim Arshad and Sreya Raghav.Cinematography part was handled well by Shamdat Sainudheen.Edits by V.Saajan could have been better.

Overall,'Role Models' is a below average comedy film that's at best watchable for few comedies and good chemistry between the lead actors.

"There is already a movie with this kind of concept and it was depicted in this movie in a really bad fashion, a big no to anyone going to watch this movie"
vishnu-dileep0818 September 2017
This movie is about Gautham and his friends from there collage life towards there reunion after many years but is Gautham the same person he was back from collage?

To say about the story line it made no sense as the movie just goes on there was no proper motive in this movie.it was just filled up with some talented actors. I liked the jokes it was funny here and there from time to time otherwise this movie is completely lame. Namitha has to do a lot to improve her acting skills as her role was useless in this movie. The rest of the actors did an OK job but they could not save this movie cause of its lame script. All the songs in this movie were bad with really nonsense lyrics but I liked one of them even when the lyrics did not make any sense. From the beginning till the ending this movie was really bad and a one to avoid. For the genre comedy this is an apt one because it has those jokes from time to time.

No I would not recommend anyone to watch this movie.

Wanted to say something but didn't
vjnambu4 June 2020
Rolemodels first half was enjoyable and gave us an expectation that it would say something serious to us but doesn't say anything and gets lost somewhere in the second half. Like sharafuddens character asks even we also get confused whether gautham is anniyan or mayavi? Harisree ashokan returns in his iconic character ramanan and was good to watch. I don't know why fahad, vinayakan and vinay fort said yes to this film.

Good theme with lot of FUN

Role Models is an absolute laugh riot and major credit for that goes to the support actors Sharafudheen(especially) and Vinayakan. Fahadh Faasil in the lead impresses with his dual personality and also does adorable dance moves in the superhit song Thechille Penne(the only other time I enjoyed a song like this was Appangalembadum in Ustad Hotel). Namitha Pramod as Fahadh's love is talented and effortlessly manages drama scenes. The director of the movie Raffi also makes an appearance here and is almost neck and neck with Sharafudheen and Vinayakan with his comedy. Renji Panicker also gets a neat role as a clueless father of Fahadh who's desperate to ensure that his son leads a normal life. The movie seemed to trivialise homosexuality even if the scenes shown were intended to be comical. Besides that, I felt the scenes towards the end where Fahadh attempts to woo Namitha were a bit too lengthy and could have been trimmed. Still, I felt the movie is an entertainment worth the ticket price. They say laughter is the best medicine and Role Models provides you just that.

Proved it again... Raffi. A comedy entertainer....
ponnubond-4718322 August 2017
Warning: Spoilers
About the Director.

The movie is as usual as other Raffi movies but he maintained us to seat the viewers in the theater for the rest of the movie as the movie is not boring. There are instant comedies in between 10 minutes along the movie & as well Raffi is also acting in this film as a psychiatrist which has made the movie more humorous.

About the Cast

Fahad had played it well in this film also. It was very though for him as he had to play the role of a Rock star, collage student & as a employee. But the employee part was really like Hari in North 24 Kaatham. Like he wouldn't speak much to anybody and etc. Namitha had made her come back very good .She didn't make the character boring at all and she was apt for it. Well Sharafudheen had played comedy piece in this film. His comedies had some standards in this movie as most the people will surely laugh in this film. Vinayakan and Vinay Fort both also played comedy roles which made people laugh too. And at last the one and only Harisree Ashokan comes in the end as guest appearance in one of his old Character Ramanan which had made everyone excited because everyone was seeing him after 19 years . I mean the character, not the actor. Which was one happy thing.

About the Story & Screenplay

The Story and Screenplay was done by the Director Raffi only. It was a half cliché but still a variety and a interesting one. The comedies were fully written by Raffi which can make the families and other viewers to laugh a lot.

About the Music & Bgm

I was surely confident that Gopi Sunder will do a good job in this movie. And i got what i expected from him. As there were only 2 songs in this film in which one already became hit before the release of this film.

Overall, its a good movie and can be watched once and can also be enjoyed by families and other viewers.

Sorry if any mistakes. This review is not applicable to every viewer.
