THE VALLEY BEYOND
conca-628-1833726 May 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Season 2 is starting to become exciting and intense, with Delores making her way to the Valley Beyond and to this weapon and with William also on his way there, I am excited to see how that unfolds and what happens.

I know for a fact that it's going to epic and utterly incredible, we may have to wait a few more weeks for that happen but this season is shaping up to amazing and the wait definitely worth it.

Many of us may not get it and may still be confused by the season so far but it's so cleverly written, cleverly acted out and so versatile that it makes you want more. I cannot wait for what this "weapon" is and what it's capable of.

It is all clear now

After a mysterious first season without showing the real purpose of The park, William or Delos everything is getting revealed and this episode was the start, I was hoping before this season started that they don't mess it up and now we are going back on track after a "not so much" first episode, now back to the deeper meaning interesting and exciting plot.

Westworld Season 2 Episode 2
rocconanut30 April 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I liked a lot the first episode, I didn't love it, but I think it was necessary because it introduces perfectly new characters and new storylines. In this second episode, the rhythm starts to accelerate, answering some questions, but increasing the mysteries. We discover a fundamental thing, that the hosts can stay outside the park. The timelines play a very important role and in this case the flashback show us the foundation of Delos and a little more of the transformation of William in to the Man in Black. Westworld doesn't lose his elegance and niether his acting at the top, and the absence of Anthony Hopkins is replaced by a wonderful and amazing script. Westworld doesn't betray the expectations and it prepares us for an unforgettable season

Best Episode Yet
scooteristi30 April 2018
So much of the story was revealed. The history of Delos and the park, the motivations of William/The Man in Black, and the differing motivations of the hosts. So much more payoff than the season premiere.

Delos' true goal is hinted at
jwwalrath-227-8548730 April 2018
Warning: Spoilers
A bit slower paced than episode one or many of the first season episodes and there is not a whole lot of new stuff going on, but things are still fun. Rachel Evan Wood again gives a strong performance, loved the scene between her and Maeve and their differing ideologies and how Maeve manages to best Dolores with her own logic and she lets Maeve on her way. I just loved the look on Dolores' face.

The flashbacks worked pretty well too, I was actually dreading them up to now. I was afraid they'd either show info. we'd already guessed or take up too much time. However, they all moved pretty quickly and they did a wonderful job of setting up what Delos is really after, data mining, which is pretty relevant to today, and I"m guessing immortality. I'm curious as to what the weapon they've built is, but let's hope things pick up a little next episode

Strong Episode
prberg215 August 2019
Really enjoying Season 2. This episode really starts to lay out what will happen this season. Strong writing and really great performances. We are getting to see more about how the park was formed and I think that is really interesting.

Boring and uneventful.
alienf3tus30 April 2018
Good god why was this so excruciatingly boring? Is anything actually going to actually happen this season? We're two episodes into the new season and nothing of note has happened yet. Confusing plot lines and dime jumps is not a staple of good television. They have so many possible routes to go with the concept, yet the show runners choose to show the most mundane and uneventful. This episode has two different types of scenes: either there were extremely elongated scenes of conversation, or lots of gratuitous violence. It didn't feel like anything was accomplished in this hour long episode, just a lot of walking around and talking about what they plan to do instead of actually doing it. So disappointing.

The Plot is so good, HBO knows how to make a tv show
moviesfilmsreviewsinc18 March 2022
We're not here yet. This isn't possible. Can technology really do this?! That's the question, more or less, posed by a giddy and incredulous Logan in one of what we hope is several cameos from Ben Barnes in season 2. The character, the unexpected star of a flashback locked somewhere away in Angela's programming, has just been introduced to the concept of "Westworld" as a park and television series in the most delicious of ways. Surprisingly, much of the hour is set in the past and focused on Delos' wonderfully warped origins from being the fantasy of a man called Arnold to the business brilliance-and ultimate folly-of a lad named William. We're introduced to this previously unbeknownst transition of purpose in an opening sequence about Arnold and Dolores. While a young (and off-screen) Robert Ford frets about how to lure investors into their incredibly expensive project, Arnold dotes on his first android and clear favorite. The original. William won't admit the pitch he's making is borne from a broken heart inflicted on him by a supposedly inanimate object. Still, that clearly lingering obsession with Dolores is what saves the park from going bankrupt, as he suggests using it as a massive data-mining hive. Forget about letting investment bankers play cowboy; the appeal of the park is for targeting the most elite and exclusive clientele for advertising. Well, that plus a little more. Tonight it's been about the true nefarious applications of artificial intelligence. It is more than just the rich man's alternative to VR. It's a new avenue for corporate malfeasance. And what that malfeasance looks like will again change our definition of "Westworld" and these characters' ambitions in future episodes.

Philosophy.

Masterpiece. This episode has a lot of things to talk about, but. To be honest all the flashback scenes are just perfect. Literally. Especially the scene Dolores and Arnold.

A bit slow
lucafantasticini1 May 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I found the episode to be a little bit too slow. There was a lot of exposition without anything of notice actually happening... in fact every timeline we saw was placed in the past (I think of Bernard and Charlotte as the present). They added some details to Logan and William's characters and to Delos' history. Some bits of Wood's acting felt out of place, considering that Dolores was supposed to be frozen or in analysis in the scenes with William. The dialogue between Dolores and Maeve is a nice way to think about idealism and how it can produce a new tyrant.

Lost the plot
Let me start by saying I'm a HUGE fan of season 1 - especially the last episode which was extraordinary...hard act to follow. Well, this feels like an entirely different series which has completely lost the thread, the magic and the subtelty of season 1. Way too many edits and fade to blacks, way too many balls in the air...it's become corny and feels like it's trying way too hard. Different writers? Different producers? Different editor? It feels like an overhaul entirely for the worse. What a damn shame. I'll persevere for 1 more ep, but I feel very let down...

Doesn't look like anything to me
trollerbrendan30 April 2018
I'm not losing hope for the rest of the season, but oh god it was hard to watch this episode. Boring dialogue, bad acting, and not enough action. After the season premiere I was hoping this episode would be better, but unfortunately I was wrong. I only pray the rest of the season is better.

Confusing timeline and just plain boring
how-6484425 May 2018
I think the worst part of this season is how they jump into scenes and you have no idea what's happening where and when. I feel that they're trying to inject little stories here and there to be continued later on and make the story longer but the execution was just really bad. The first episode was already all over the place and they follow up with this one. Are the makers trying to make fans hate the show? Because they're doing a really good job at that.

I think they should focus on the "now" issues and if they want to squeeze in some backstory at least make them related to what's currently happening. Like what made the hosts revolt? What really happened during that day (in S1's last episode)? Why did the guns magically work on people? How? These are questions that need to be addressed the soonest but instead they dwell on backstories far back that don't add any value to the current situation.

Yawn
Maddy-the-Weinerdog4 April 2022
Talking...slow...and...dramatic...pauses...do ...not...create...drama...and...mystery...they...just...make...it...boring.

Suspense is not created with slow dialogue or painful pacing. If there isnt enough story to fill an entire episode, either rewrite the episode, or make a shorter episode - don't just bore the audience by stretching it out, and calling it "art".

The Stake
theminorityreporter23 September 2019
Warning: Spoilers
At a table in a saloon the man in black sits talking with his sidekick, Lawrence. Digging a piece of shrapnel out of his upper forearm with his knife, he asks "Do you believe in God, Lawrence? Did Ford saddle you with that particular affliction?" Lawrence expresses some cynicism regarding his soul potentially being cast down into some "dark place" and the man in black says he has been judged but he plans to appeal the verdict. Avoiding judgement appears to be the important thematic element here but it's not, really.

In a torture session led by Dolores a man's face is forcibly immersed in the white liquid used for forming hosts. He yells that it burns and there's a subtle indication of the man's skin being damaged beneath the thick syrupy layer of deceptively innocuous-looking muck.

People are very orange a lot of the time now, and very excessively so in low-light scenes which appear to also be lit with overly warm-colored lighting. It looks like varying, inconsistent combinations of self-tanner, makeup, and lighting. I've taken to judging the relative orangeness of people and noting the differences from one shot or scene to the next. It's not by choice; it seems to just be happening.

When Dolores and Maeve cross paths, Maeve asks Dolores' love interest, Teddy if he feels free. He clearly doesn't. Hector shouldn't either but he remains unaware of this.

Another super-pretentious BS diatribe from Dolores as she 'negotiates' with a Confederado Major to just commandeer his unit. She proclaims that she has killed God and now she's the (godlike) one whose favor will be needed to get to glory, and I can't stop noticing that the player is wearing color contacts.

A mass suicide is depicted as El Lazo's men all form a circle round the man in black and shoot themselves in the head rather than go with him as martial support. El Lazo then commits suicide as well. Evidently the shallow use of suicide as a BS-clever dramatic device will continue unabated (when they've done something lousy several times they tend to do it many times more). I've noticed the man in black has been coughing and sort of limping intermittently here and there.
