I-almost-broke-my-jaw-when-it-fell-on-the-floor-amazing ep

Warning: Spoilers
The spear's hiding place is so freaking smart, original and just sheer superhero! And who better than a never-to-be-messed-with archvillain like RF to outsmart the heroes?! Jeebus but LoT keeps kicking up a notch every ep.

The writing for RF is AMAZING, we see how the events that transpired throughout the season played out here in a beautiful chessgame that kept RF believably contained. RF/Ray had me on the edge of my seat grabbing every word uttered, the surprising back-and-forth with Ray keeping up with Eobard. And ET remembers his time at StarLabs! RF remains the stand-out archvillain in CWDCverse. I need a LoT commemorative coin that says "In Eobard Thawne We Trust", because I do. Heh heh.

Then there was Commander Steel. The last time I teared up like this was Nora/Barry in Flash's S1 finale. Really, I choked up watching Henry make his final sacrifice after he already sacrificed so much. Commander Steel lived and died a true hero, in every sense of the word. And we only got 2 eps max on the character but this writing for Henry was so spot on, he didn't need more than this ep for his death to punch me in the guts. Just WOW!

But there were some things to nitpick:

  • not feeling the borderline competition between Rip and Sara

  • do we really want to see a LoT version of changing time for personal benefit? Still, that was a hardcore lead-by-example from Henry as Amaya weighs her own grim destiny.

  • Not enough Mick (but he still had his moments with his "Haircut's on the moon?!" and having Martin's back at NASA no matter how ridiculous because he's a Rogue!)

  • Jax and Martin sidelined again (but Garber got to sing the Banana Boat Song! And Drameh got to show his natural accent!)

Writing writing writing tied this with Legion of Doom for best ep of the season because it build on the groundwork laid in previous eps.

Score: 9.1

Infiltrating Nasa

It's not uncommon for Legends to vary in quality from week to week. In fact, since its inception, I can't remember the show ever having really good back to back episodes. It's more likely to be the opposite. I was highly critical of last week's adventure, but I think this episode did a far better job of juggling tone, among other things.

Since we finally finished the side arc for Rip, it seems like we can expect it to be Legion of Doom focused from here on out. 'Moonshot' only featured Thawne, and without his speed as well. So where it once again lacked in the antagonist department, it succeeded in making the most out of a trip to the moon. This is where this season has surpassed season 1, the unrealistically fun adventures. Commander Steel hid part of the spear of destiny in the flag on the moon? That's brilliantly ridiculous storytelling.

What followed was a combination of a tribute to the film Apollo 13 (along with the miraculous real-life events) and 2015's The Martian. The Legends were stuck with trying to save Ray & Thawne from a shuttle traveling to earth at a deadly rate. So, was Thawne even used as an antagonist at all in this episode? Nope. In fact, he actually teamed up with Ray to make the trip home safely. The CW is lucky that no one takes this show seriously, because there's so many missed opportunities.

With the return of Commander Steel, we got some touching moments between Henry and Nate. The former was forced to come to grips with not being able to see his son (Nate's father) ever again. I don't usually, but I found this to be emotionally resonant. Hopefully this will put Nate in a more driven place for the rest of the season. Let's forget about that Amaya romance and focus on taking down the Legion, right? The last thing worth noting is that Rip has acknowledged how out of place he is on this team now that he's not captain. This can either go one of two ways; one having Rip quit the team by season's end and be sent off on travels elsewhere, or two, they make the really dumb decision by having Sara step down and give the power back to Rip. I think you know how I would like things to pan out.

+Hey look it's one fourth of the Legion

+Fun, ridiculous adventure

-Let's get the full Legion team out in the open

Fun ep
phoenixnl-166473 March 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Like almost al episodes in S2 the show doesn't take itself seriously and is therefore fun to watch and easier to overlook plot holes. However one thing stood out that isn't mentioned at all. Commander Steel being in 1970 is already a time aberration cause Rip send him to the future. Returning him to his proper time of 1956 would instead of creating an aberration return the time line to it's original state.

In fact al the JSA members being in different times and some of them dying there in of itself would have greatly changed the timeline. It's pretty weird that this is completely glossed over in the episodes.

Also Comm. Steele died completely unnecessary. Even if you disregard the fact that decompression wouldn't cause winds strong and long enough to "Push" someone into space (there is no such thing as a vacuum pulling btw). There remains the fact that he is wearing pants with a leather belt. It would have taken but a few seconds to secure himself to one of the metal struts next to the lever that opened the door.

But like I said before I still enjoy the show, even though both the episode and the overall season plots make no sense at all and are full of logic holes. I've become accustomed to this in this series and don't expect a LoT ep to make sense anymore.

Funny and emotional episode
michaelafamfulikova15 March 2017
Warning: Spoilers
As the Legends season 2 gets to its end, its getting more intense. And now the Legends were involved in the Apollo 13 story. This episode offered once again emotional and funny moments. As for the emotional moments, the number one was hands down Nate parting ways with Colonel Heywood. And also the Amaya-Nate talk. Ray was very funny as astronaut, and the 2001 Space Odyssey music was more than adequate,as he stepped onto the moon floor. I expected him almost to quote Neil Armstrong! Good there were no too much cheesy romantic moments of anyone in this episode. What made my jaw drop, was Victor Garber singing Banana Boat Song:) I would have never expected him to sing in Legends again, though I know he will sing in the upcoming Flash/Supergirl crossover. He still has it, this Victor Garber! I mean charisma and wit not only as actor, but also singer. Am so glad he sang here, for I think he is really underrated as singer! The Banana Boat Song stuck in my head, thanks Mr.Garber:) And Eobard Thawne has become my favorite Arrowverse villain, thanks also to his portrayal by Matt Letscher. Best acting performances: Matt Letscher as Eobard Thawne Dominic Purcell as Mick Rory Nick Zano as Nate Heywood Maisie Richardson-Sellers as Amaya Jiwe Arthur Darvill as Rip Hunter Victor Garber as Martin Stein Matthew McCaul as Henry Heywood

Moonshot

Warning: Spoilers
Why do the legend always want to change history for their personal benefit?, isn't that what they trying to prevent? changing history. Martin, Jax, Sara, and now Nate, it's getting stale. Though, the relationship between Nate and his grand dad was emotional, I like how it played out at the end.

Ray's stucked on the moon with Thawne, I like their part, it's tender, and of course I love the reference to The Martian, and the Moon sequences were pretty good.

It's obvious there's tension between Rip and Lance, and I like how he admitted he didn't fit in the team anymore at end, will he take his former position back ( not likely to happen) or will leave the team and find his own path ( I'd love that).

All in all, a good episode, and there's development for some of the characters and the concept of going to the Moon was pretty cool!
