Summaries

  • Bart ends up in the hospital after taking a dare and lies about going to heaven to cover it up, but Homer takes a deal with Christian producers to make a movie about it.

Synopsis

  • The episode begins at Springfield Elementary school, where Martin Prince is playing the cello on stage and Dolph heckles and Principal Skinner tells him off. Lisa then plays a depressing song on the saxophone. The bullies dare Bart to pull the alarm and embarrass Lisa, but Bart refuses. The following day everyone is talking about his refusal on the dare and Skinner tells him to come to his office where his parents are waiting and Marge tells Bart how proud she is that he refused. That evening in Barts room, Homer tells him he shouldn't refuse a dare, but Marge embarrasses Bart in front of everyone by kissing him. The bullies come up to Bart on the swing and dare him to jump off Dead mans ledge and Homer comes to tell Bart not to, but Bart jumps hits a rock, knocking him out. In the hospital, Dr Hibbert tells Marge and Homer that he'll be ok. Unfortunately, Marge is angry at Bart for doing a stupid thing, but Bart makes up a story of being in the other world, meaning heaven and Marge is appeased. Ned comes to the hospital to hear stories about what heaven is like and Bart becomes the talk of the town, being on the front page of the newspapers. Back at the Simpson household, Lisa tells Bart that she doesn't believe he went to heaven, before the doorbell rings and Bart answers it, revealing that the men are "Christian movie producers" and they tell Bart and Homer that they want to make a movie out of what Bart "saw" and Homer agrees under certain conditions. Ned joins their prayer circle and Bart says that Jesus wants Homer and Ned to work together on creating the movie. Ned and Homer instantly get stumped, so get Lenny, Carl and Barney to write up script ideas. Homer and Ned then do auditions and Emily Deschanel reads the part of Marge so well that Homer believes it really is Marge and Homer tells her to do certain things whilst acting, but Homer still believes it's Marge and walks out the door. Gal Gadot then goes for the part of Lisa and Ned tells Gal that she has the part, before Barney arrives for the part of "Noah", before being told there is no Noah in the movie. Back in the Simpsons kitchen, Lisa asks Marge whether she believes Barts story and Marge tells Lisa to go and get her Wine for her. On set, the actors of Homer and Bart hug each other and Bart questions why their real relationship isn't that strong, before Homer strangles Bart in front of the production crew and runs away. Lisa then tells Bart to be careful as lies lead to bigger lies. Barts guilt grows and tells Homer to let everyone know about the lies. That night, Bart dreams about going to heaven and meets Marges deceased father and Jesus tells Bart that he is trying to forgive him, before beating him up with the word love. The premiere of Barts Not Dead is showing and everyone asks Bart loads of questions, but Homer tells them he won't be taking any further questions. The movie plays and Lisa on the film says that Bart is her hero, before offering everyone a hamburger, to which the real Lisa tells Maggie, who is talking on a toy phone and wearing a suit, much like the one in DreamWorks Boss Baby franchise, that she wouldn't ever say that. The Bart on the film starts singing about Christianity and being given another chance. In the bedroom, Homer holds a hairbrush and pretends its a "Christian Oscar" and practices his speech, before Bart comes in and tells Marge that he made everything up and Lisa says that Ned called and said that the movie is making millions and Marge tells Homer they need to tell the truth, but Homer needs more convincing and eventually agrees. Outside the house, there is an angry mob of people. Homer and Ned tell the truth and the fact that Bart lied quickly gets televised on the news. Lisa brings Bart some ice cream and discovers he is on the roof and has no friends, but Lisa says she'll be his friend and that god will forgive Bart if he is truly remorseful over his actions, before the pair slide off the roof and into a pile of leaves. The episode ends in heaven and Homer tells Bart that heaven has got so boring and heads to "Hindu Heaven" to be sent back to earth as a Turtle or a pharmaceutical CEO, to which Homer chooses a turtle.
