It was so much better then what I expected!

I was one of the lucky hundred or so people to attend the world premiere of SLEEP EATERS from Cemetery Theater in Orono, Maine on November 17th.

I had heard about the film on the local news and radio an quickly looked up the team of filmmakers and actors on youtube. I watched some of the short films, both comedy and horror and absolutely loved their style.

The film is a followup to a short they made a few years ago called SLEEP EATER. It was free on youtube leading up to the event so I got to find out exactly who these characters were, but I don't think you have to see the first film to be entertained by this one.

My immediate thought was how impressive the film looked considering the budget. We are talking shoe-string budget and the actors were all great. I was surprised how big the cast was for such a small film. They all did really good jobs. I especially liked the guy who played Reggie and Kelly. Their scenes were my favorite.

The winks and nods to the first film are through out the sequel and I caught most of them I think. Everything from the pie, to the hypnotherapist missing his fingers and one of the main characters best friends dirty joke. It was all great.

The fx were really top notch. I don't know how they pulled off all that blood and gore on a small budget and got some of those people to do the things they did on camera. I am kind of jealous I missed the extras casting call on this one.

The director Shane Grant was on hand with some of the cast & crew and he seemed like a real fun person to be around. All of them seemed like they had a lot of great times making this film and their smiles on their faces showed that. Some great stories and anecdotes were shared after the screening. There was an after party and I wish I could have came to party with some of the sleep eaters cast.

So overall, the film was so much better then what I expected. of course it had some sound problems here and there, but I was informed it was a rough version of the film and still needed some additional work. I cant wait for it to come out on blu-ray so I can show it to some of my horror fan friends.

long live sleep eaters !!!

Sleep Eaters (2017) Director: Shane Grant Runtime: 90min Rating: NR Starring: Tony Bennett, Craig Capone, Bill Cassinelli, Starr Ferris Format: Theater Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S1LjTm67pZk

Synopsis: A year after the events of the first film, SLEEP EATER (2016) we follow Rachel Stephens who is trying to uncover the truth behind the unspeakable "Cannibal" Kelly Anderson murders that happened in her town of Bangor, Maine. Meanwhile, Kelly Anderson who is now on the run from the law, and with a bounty on his head finds himself in the middle of a war between a lonely man, Reggie and a family of gun-toting lunatics. When their blood-soaked paths cross, we uncover a world filled with more terror, more gore, and a diabolical doctor who has a "cure" and plenty of patients to experiment on.

I had a chance to attend the world premiere of Cemetery Theater's first feature-length film Sleep Eaters. It was a blast and I'm glad I got to attend.

I saw the short film Sleep Eater last year after attending a comic-con and really enjoyed it. So, I was curious to see where the follow up would go and how it would play out. Needless to say, I wasn't disappointed.

If you're a gore hound this film has plenty. I knew going in this film was done on a very limited budget. With that in mind they made excellent use of what they had. I've seen films with substantially larger budgets that didn't succeed in that area anywhere near as well as this film did. There's plenty of offbeat comedy and entertaining moments scattered throughout the film to keep you interested. It's a solid mix of everything I love about horror. It very much hearkens back to classic 80's slasher and campy splatter films.

Like any low budget film, there are issues, but the heart and overall passion that went into this film are clearly evident by the product on the screen. It just goes to prove, if you have the drive and determination to make something happen, you can do it. Just because the budget isn't huge, you can still make an enjoyable, fun film. In the end Sleep Eaters achieved both of those things. If you're a fan of low-budget gory horror with just the right amount comedy thrown in, you'll more than likely enjoy this one and I recommend checking it out.

Maine made horror

I ordered this title after hearing about the original short. This movie starts out showing what happened in the original short. From there it goes on to show why the events are happening. If you are a fan of low budget independent horror you need to see this film.
