In the semi-final of the competition, Elena, Harry and Matt had to prepare two dishes (main and dessert) to be served to twenty diners and the judges in a 4 hour service challenge. Matt's confit duck and brioche doughnut stood out, making him the first through to the Finale. It was between Elena and Harry who, despite having excellent desserts (Elena's apples and biscuits, and Harry's espresso bavarois), both had issues with their mains: both Elena's Australian version of a nicoise salad and Harry's lobster cannelloni were dry due to the lack of sauces, but it was his use of oily kingfish that overpowered the lobster flavour on his cannelloni that eliminated Harry from the competition, sending Elena into the Grand Finale.
