- In 1965, British army MP captain Joe Martin arrives with his wife, Honor, in Aden colonial crown protectorate to replace the popular captain Nick Page as patrol commander, whose promotion sendoff party leads to the driver, handsome lance corporal Tony Armstrong, arriving late to pick up the Martins at the airstrip. Joe soon has to adjust to life on the front line despite resentment among the men that he was appointed instead of promoting competent veteran lieutenant Ed Laithwaite, who duly questions the old-fashioned bully interrogation of Arab natives, instead of building confidence subtly, but is blocked by conservative major Harry Markham, the garrison CO. Honor finds a dubious mentor in Laithwaite's lush wife Alison, who had a fertile affair with Page. Armed independence extremists try to shoot an officer and captain Page is killed by an explosion in an ambush, his driver, whom he tricked as punishment into drying his uniforms slacks, then drove off leaving Tony running at the jeep n his boxers, which saves the boy's life. Wounded, he hides and is found and nursed by veiled native Yusra Saeed, with whom the hottie flirted earlier.—KGF Vissers
