- TAILING POND is an unsettling expose of the terrible human cost of India's decades long nuclear program.
- To assert itself as a global power, India developed a nuclear weapons program after independence in 1947. To fuel the controversial program, the government created the Uranium Corporation of India's to mine the extensive uranium resources in Jadugora, in Eastern India, ancient home to many of the nation's tribal people. A new film, TAILING POND, explores the awful price paid by the villagers of Jadugora for the success of India's nuclear program and the responsibility of the Uranium Corporation of India (UCIL) for the man made plague that afflicts them. It's a responsibility that the Indian government steadfastly refuses to acknowledge.
- "TailingPond" is a expose of India's post-independence nuclear program. This film investigates the horrifying effects of uranium extraction on the health of the indigenous population of Jadugoda, Jharkhand whose human rights have been violated by the Indian government since 1967. In East India, thousands of young children are falling ill and ultimately dying due to radioactive waste pollution. This tragedy has been covered by many credited media platforms and news outlets but never in-depth where the human toll has a face and name. It's time for the Indian Government's decades-long conspiracy of lies to come to light...
In 1951, the government of India discovered expansive uranium reserves in Jadugora. In order to secure their position as a strong nuclear power the government decided to exploit Jadugora's uranium reserves. Improper mining, extraction, and waste disposal methods resulted in a highly toxic and lethal contamination. This posed a significant safety and health risk to the surrounding population. Since that time the tribal population has been plagued with skeletal deformations, leukemia and other cancers, organ ailments, asthma, spontaneous abortions, and a range of birth defects. As a native of Jharkhand, India, Saurav Vishnu was aware of the injustices tribal peoples of Jadugora faced. He started a private trust " Help the Tribals" in 2013 to alleviate the situation of tribals living in Jadugora. Although a strong activist he was unable to make lasting change. In order to make a significant impact Saurav realized it was important to bring global awareness to the issue. This could be achieved through the medium of film.
