A good motivation, but I am not convinced by the outcome

"The Greatest" is a 6-minute tribute video and song for the victims of the Orlando night club shooting earlier this year. The singer is Australian artist Sia and she also directed this video together with Daniel Askill. The star of the film is once again Sia's muse Maddie Ziegler who is the lead dancer from start to finish. And while I appreciate the idea of wanting to help out after this terrible tragedy that cost so many people's lives, I must say that this one here is nowhere near the best Sia and Ziegler have done in the last years. It is actually a contender for her worst possibly, which is especially disappointing given the noble intentions behind it. Subtlety is non-existent in here and this was always one of the strengths of the duo that they combined showiness with subtlety in terms of the right proportion. The song feels really generic and Sia's voice never shines the way it does in her other works. Ziegler tries her best, but she cannot elevate the mediocre material either, even if she probably cannot be blamed for it as she is really "only" performing. All in all, I do not recommend the watch. Thumbs down as nothing stays memorable apart from the circumstances under which this was made.
