The role of Alfie didn't originally belong to Foster. Director Smith had previously cast two other actors to play the role of Craig Owens' son, but they each dropped out due to scheduling conflicts. The role eventually went to Collyn Foster, who accepted it a week before the production started.
Bella was also recast twice, and the role eventually went to actress Katherine Barnes. Barnes accepted the role on October 27, 2016-- the first day of filming and a week before she was called to set for her film days.
While the lead villain was only cast once, the actress playing Katron had to drop out the day before she was due on set. Panicked for time, the film's assistant director, Abigail Colette Smith, stepped into the role. Even though Smith was not an actor and did not have the role's lines memorized, she sat through a 5 1/2 hour makeup application, and repeated the lines back from Director Cheyanne Marie Smith who read them just off camera. Three weeks after production ended, Director Smith cast Los Angeles Voice Over actor Ryan Rothla as the Voice of Katron.
Even though the entire production was filmed on location in Oklahoma, Director Cheyanne Marie Smith wrote the script, sent out casting calls, and found crew members from her home in California before flying out to Oklahoma for the production and set days.
The college used in the film is real, and Director Smith graduated with an Associate's in Creative Writing from the school Northern Oklahoma College.
