Entertaining fiction based (loosley) on fact

I love all historical and non-historical dramas/documentaries, whatever the century or genre. I watch to be entertained not to nit-pick because the wrong torque was worn or something seen didn't actually appear in use for another couple of centuries. That is why I love Britannia, it's pure escapism, good storylines, if at times complicated - which is why I record the episodes and watch later - and the acting is good with a strong cast; an excellent series. I hope series two is shown soon.

Finally, while everyone is entitled to their opinion, the reviewer who said the opening and closing music was terrible is obviously quite young, else they would have known that Hurdy Gurdy man was written in 1968 and performed by Donovan, an innovative singer/songwriter at that time. My personal opinion is that it is a perfect piece of music to use for the opening/closing credits as its very atmospheric

well it's NO "Last Kingdom" ...

But I kept watching. Took me 3 starts to get past first ep, and finally keep watching, clearly the 2nd season was better than the first, but it is no where near as compelling or exciting as The Last Kingdom. Now I do hope there is 3rd season if they will keep the story lines and momentum going....however, they already killed off my favorite character / actor ..... so we'll see.

enjoyed it enormously

Its only vaguely historical but once you get over that its very enjoyable. Strong female and male roles, a lot of content per episode with a lot of plot twists and turns. Unlike previous reviewer I feel the use of modern language use works well, after all people in british tribal cultures in those days would have been speaking a language we wouldn't understand but to them it would have been the colloquial language of their times. I'm not fond of making something sound archaic when at the time something is set it wouldn't have been archaic at all. Ending leaves it open for a possible second series and I hope they make one as I will certainly watch it.

No story, just charming actors and perfect song
anagalilea4 December 2018
Nothing to talk about plot wise. Pure nonesense after three episodes it is clear actors are there, Morrisey included to show how pretty and charming and atractive they are. The main theme is perfect and the best of the TV show by far. No historical, no reality. loosely based on stereotypes of the time
