Blacklist Supergirl style and the return of Kara! Warning: Spoilers
I personally thought this was a pretty good episode for a season that started off rather slowly compared to the first one. I kind of understand why. The only spoilers here on out

The first season was about meek Kara Danvers/Zor-El becoming Supergirl and about building characters. The only plot points were Lord and the Kryptonians so they had a lot of room to bring in villains and make interesting episodes.

Season two brought in new characters, politics, furthered character story lines, and had Kara embrace being Supergirl. Kara spent most of the season being Supergirl, even when she was in her Kara persona. The only times she really let herself be Kara is when she was having emotional moments(girl talk; intimate with Mon-El, excitement over meeting the president etc; or when she was being a reporter. Otherwise she was 100% Supergirl; however, who can rally blame her? In the early episodes of season 1 she stated that true Kryptonian nature is to embrace team work and she did just that. But being the most powerful member of the team and with so many victories she started to need others less and less and became more like how she saw Superman, a loner and being biologically young she let it get to her head, which made her more arrogant, it took pep talks from Snapper and Maggie as well as Alex almost dying for her to see the error of her ways. That is a major reason why she contacted Lillian in this episode.

Human nature also played a much larger role in this season, but especially in this episode. It's why Lillian left Mon-El and Kara Stranded and why Kara went to talk to Rhea. Both women are destined to be who they are (Lilian is vile and Kara is overly optimistic). It is also human nature to seek guidance, in season 1, she had Kat to tell her when she was wrong or right. In season 2 she had to decide on her own and not having Kat's experience, she sucked at it that lead to her being arrogant.

The Kara in the season two episodes (arrogant to the point of being obnoxious) for the most part was nothing like Kara in the introduction sequence (a giant dork). In this episode, she is the same person only wiser and more mature. That is why she had a backup plan for getting Mon-El back home.

The similarities between this episode and the Series Blacklist are numerous: -Team of good guys teams up with a bad guy to get worse bad guy -Kat knows Kara is Supergirl and Supergirl knows it; everyone knew the relationship between Red and Masha -Bad guy does something to screw over good guys behind their back -Good guy seeks guidance from parent figure

Most of the other reviews mentioned some of the stuff I left out; I just wanted to mention a few things I thought were also important. I know they continue to play it off like Kat doesn't know, but Winn basically spelled it out for her. Speaking of Kat and Winn, when did she become so maternal towards him? She never called him by his actual name, let alone his actual name! That was basically my major critique of this episode and season. I think she only ever called him Winn one time in all of season 1. Though her sarcastic comments towards the president made me realize she was being sarcastic more often than I realized in season one, most noticeably when she acted surprised when she found out who Winn's father was.

Warning: Spoilers
Oh we missed you Cat Grant.

I was totally not looking forward to this ending to season 2. And then Cat Grant shows up. From that point on, I was ready for a superhero ending.

Yes Cat Grant is way too much over the top. But that's the point.

And no one believes in Supergirl like Cat, and no one raises Kara's game like Cat.

Oh, one other things I detest in these shows - mind control. That's just more of the invincible. Mind control is just cheating.

I hope Cat stays for season 3.

Supergirl - S02E21 Resist

Warning: Spoilers
Last week in Supergirl we finally got some form of progression towards our end goal for this season. While with only 2 episodes left I thought they they were leaving the run a bit late, it was exciting to see this season actually going somewhere.

I'll start by talking about the action in this episode. The CW superhero shows always have some really good action set pieces but I thought that this episode specifically was outstanding. The way it was shot and chorographed was really well done and it is by far a really great positive for this episode.

If I had to pick a stand out character from this episode, it would have to be Mon-El. From his opening scene I thought he had some really great written dialog that was performed outstandingly by Chris Wood.

Now for my biggest positive of the episode, this episode finally felt like it had stakes. It has been weeks since I have watched an episode of Supergirl where I have felt that what is happening matters, or that there is a real threat out there. This is the feeling I wanted the past 3 or 4 weeks, however it has taken then up until the second last episode to bring in stakes that are worthy for this point of the season.

I need to touch on Cadmus for a second because if it was up to me. They should of been the big bad of this season. Instead they disappeared into nothingness only to have a shoed in appearance in the last couple of episode. Cadmus had no reason to be there. I know they were used as a plot device to get onto the ship, but I saw no logical reason why it should be them apart from the Luthor connection. For me, Cadmus has been a really big wasted opportunity in the second half of the season because they were so well utilised in the first, and their appearance this episode didn't help that.

I'm not normally one to get into the politics of these shows, but there was something that really got on my nerves this episode. I do not live in America however I know of the common fear many countries have of people from other countries coming into theirs and applying their sense of living. I thought that earlier in the season they rode a nice line of acceptance through the use of alien immigration. However I feel as though this episode undid a lot of that. This episode we had a foreign life form invading and applying their laws on the city. With that, we then got a scene from Lillian Luthor (who in the start of the season was the bad person for her stand against immigration) saying I told you so. Like I said, I often ignore political stances in shows like this however I found it very contradicting that they took such a positive stance earlier in the season, for it to be completely reversed at the end.

Cat Grant was one of my favourite character in season one because she was that older, wiser character that this younger cast need to bounce off. With her leaving, I have at times missed her and knowing she was coming back in these last couple of episode really excited me. While I really enjoyed everything she did this episode, I can't stop but feel as though she felt shoed into this episode similar to Cadmus. I did not see a real reason as to why she should of been there. If she came with the president, then why didn't she leave with the president? On top of that, her story as to why she was with the president to begin with didn't really work for me. At the end of the day, while I really enjoyed having Cat Grant back, I felt as though they could have reintroduced her a better way.

A pet peeve I have had during the second half of this season has been Kara. I have felt that in many occasions, her ego and naivety of certain situations have gotten the better of her character, and this was the situation again at the end of this episode. I felt like screaming at the screen when she said she was staying. She achieved her goal of saving everyone, why risk the city because she believes she has a better way? This is one of those times when they have written Kara as a character who sat a little to high on her high horse and didn't take into consideration everything else that was going on.

Overall, while I had my fair share of negative to say, I know most of it will wash over and this episode will stand out as one of the better ones in recent times. While it wasn't perfect, it did enough for me to make me excited for the finale. Of course the inclusion of Superman in the dying moments sparked that excitement a little bigger, but I think the episode itself was still fairly solid.

Warning: Spoilers
Not sure I have ever seen so much nonsense and mindlessly thrown in twists and hurdles for characters than in this beyond stupid episode. The ganja fog in the room where they were writing this must have been so thick not only they could not see each other, it seems even sound could not pass from person to person. Hey John, lets throw in Cat on the Airforce one, we have not seen her in a while. Sure, Joe, that is amazing. Lets also recycle the "who's longer" joke and make it feminine so it makes no sense and throw in some ""funny"" banter (which of course ends up being cringe worthy) for our extremely strong female characters at the most inappropriate time while the world is in peril for NO reason except to make the female characters seem so bad S. Only makes them seem idiotic. Though that might not be amazing enough, how about we make the president an alien. And then maybe lets just like, attack the army of aliens and their advanced ships (filled with half Jaffa half Guardians) with the Airforce One (???, I was actually thinking, is this for real or am I watching comedy central and where is Chuck Norris) and two jets, maybe we can destroy them. After all, the president is now an alien (not that anyone objects or is concerned even for a millisecond). U U U, guys, I can top that, lets make Cat even more bad S/important just for kicks and lets Madeline give her a call.

Watching this train wreck of an episode is an insult to viewers. One could write an esey on how bad it was,i am only picking on few things. Didn't even mention that pathetic plane crash site that they did not invest more than 2 minutes to create, or made from painted boxes Fortress of solitude , let alone forget the so so cheap twists like the canon getting destroyed just in the nick of time or the Superman being controled. I think this is the worst written episode and the most filled with clichés and stereoytpes that I have seen ever on any show ever. Even a generic episode generator where one could only change character names and plot points would have created a more original plot. Pa The Tic. And people get payed to write this nonsense. Think about that folks. PAYED for this and payed well.

Exceptional and very motivating

Warning: Spoilers
Calista Flockhart's astounding acting and motivational speeches were extremely moving and bold. In addition to her acting, her speeches really did relate to the real world and shot down many of the misogynistic leaders of the free wide world. Melissa Benoist's acting was a lot bolder than last year and her on screen relationship with Chris Wood is extremely pivotal in her role of playing Supergirl. Jeremy Jordan's on screen friendship with Flockhart is really inspiring and truthfully flawless. His acting as well was very real and represents the people with no or less physical power however, they are the oils that run the engine of the car. Katie McGrath empowers women who wish to go into STEM and her relationship with on screen characters is very pivotal and inspirational to the story-line of other characters.

This episode explores the importance of "Human Connection" and allows the viewers to connect on another level with the show. Previously in the primary episodes we connect with Supergirl only in terms of her impact on society, however this season, the characters are unafraid to be bolder and stronger. Woman empowerment is one of the fundamental themes of this series however this season, we see all female characters show the importance of woman empowerment and how the strong minded character of a female has the capability to shut down or beat an alien invasion.

This show is getting better and better every episode and I hope to see more of David Harewood in the upcoming finale!

Attack on National City
ThomasDrufke15 May 2017
There's one thing that's abundantly clear about this season compared to last, and that's that the showrunners are less afraid to be bolder in all areas of this show. Whether that's more action or bigger story lines, I have to give the show credit for at least trying some things this year. Unsurprisingly, some of those things work, and some don't.

Tonight's episode was all about returns. Not only did we get the return of the beloved (not really) Cat Grant, but we saw the likes of Lynda Carter's President Marsdin and Lillian Luthor. Let's start with Grant, because that's by far the one I had the biggest reaction to, and that reaction being not so good. I have nothing against Calista Flockhart, as I'm sure she's just doing what the directors ask, but I just can't stand that character. Basically, she represents all of what was wrong with season 1, and that definitely undermined some of what was going on. I didn't need a motivational speech from her, or somehow interrupting a Presidential address? I'm sorry, what?

Speaking of which; as much as I enjoyed having Lynda Carter back, I don't really feel like she was a necessary part of this episode. She essentially just replaced anything the DEO would have been doing and gave it a "grander" scope. And are we supposed to believe she's truly a "good guy"? I'd like to think she has a little more up her sleeve. Which brings me to Lillian Luthor, who managed to team up with Supergirl to save Lena and Mon-El from Rhea's ship and attack. That was by far my favorite angle the writers took. We all know the Luthor's aren't done wrecking Kara's life, but it was cool to see a team-up, albeit brief.

This episode was bold in scope and direction, but Rhea's plan for National City felt like the exact same thing that General Zod did in Man of Steel, and it really lacked originality overall. The only thing that didn't feel copied was the proposed wedding between Lena and Mon-El. But this episode is clearly part 1 of 2 with next week's finale just around the corner, so it's probably not best to put all my cards in this week anyway. Onto Supergirl vs Superman.

+Lillian's turn

+Bold with scope

-Cat Grant

-Rhea's plan is generic

bit of a stretch
glstrom-1426019 May 2017
Warning: Spoilers
So difficult to try to satisfy various demographics (women, kids, people who actually ready the comics, etc) and still tell an entertaining story. Cat is back, and hanging with the president when not busy dropping names (seriously, Kanye and Taylor like we're supposed to thing that is cool?) Not a very realistic crash scene for Air Force One, and everyone just hanging out at the DOE like it is school recess then, boom, under attack...where are the defenses and surely if the aliens can break through that they would be better fighters. OK Alex, let's stop and do a forced kiss because it is written in the script, then carry on with no idea of what you're doing though somehow the president has put you in charge of it all. Jimmy (sorry, James) the photographer still hasn't taken a single photo though I guess being guardian keeps him busy...need to get some eye shields though Bub, like your identity is that important at this point and time. And the motivation for it all is mom's spite and need to find a new planet to call home? Political overtones so obvious as to really turn off certain members of society, so guessing they among the folks show is looking to impress. And are you telling me Supergirl could not just fly up and into that spaceship...I know , it would completely ruin the suspense and betrayal (once again ) by Luther bad mom, again, a bit of a stretch like a crazy curtain call when you have to get everyone out there for a final bow.

I did like Cat's inspiring speech to Supergirl because connections do count and people do feel the need to belong and always nice to see Superman even if he is possessed, am sure he will snap out of it just in time. Please, for the sake of the future, tell good stories, be clever, and funny without such obvious agendas to limit your reach...just don't stretch credulity too far. thanks

Great episode, BUT...
terrilead28 May 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Spoiler: This episode has a political viewpoint shoved everywhere in it. I love all the CW DC comic shows. I have all of the older Supergirl comics. The show seems to be keeping with the Kara character from them as best as it can. BUT, this episode seemed to be less of an entertainment piece and more of a political stance. Please keep politics out of our comic shows. If I want politics I will pick up a newspaper or turn on a news channel.

Another episode ruined by politics...
heavymetalheathen3 September 2020
Warning: Spoilers
As I've said before....The writers need to understand the setting. How can you have anti-Trump rhetoric when the President on this Earth is a FEMALE SPACE ALIEN???

If I want to know how awful Trump is,I'll watch CNN!

As for the episode.... Cat Grant was great (minus the man bashing & political rants), And Linda Carter is always enjoyable. The plot was simple, and predictable, even the end. The worst episode of the season by far.
