Filling In....See it!!

I was unsure what to expect based on the short trailer to the movie. The film immediately draws you in during the first scene and continues to take unexpected turns throughout the movie. Jared Odrick did a fabulous job, as did the other actors. It was an enjoyable experience and I look forward to seeing more from this cast.

Fills All Your Comedic Needs

The daddy daughter duo behind Dadley productions, Brad and Sarah Hawkins, follow up their debut short "Roller Coaster" with a film that fills audiences to the brim with laughter. Larger-than-life star Jared Odrick plays the absurd "fish out of water" role so well in this one that it's at times uncomfortably awkward to watch (in all the right ways) while co-star Karl Holtz breathes life into his just-edgy-enough mentor. The film will have you giggling almost from the get-go, but it's the last scene that really takes the prize, leaving audiences to wonder what else could be in store for them in this twisted fantasy world when the final credits start rolling.

Dadley Productions makes magic with Filling In - a rewardingly funny and creative comedy short.
sreddig3 May 2017
The concept behind Filling In is part "Breaking Bad", part buddy picture, part caper, part fish out of water story, and part comedy for the whole family. Tall order! Yet, this short film manages to pull it off and leaves you wanting more.

From the opening scenes, Director Bradley Hawkins, Editor Ryan Geesaman, and Cinematographer Brian Shaub have the audience guessing … what exactly is this "grizzled vet" luring the new guy into? I won't spoil the reveal, but let's just say it's a comedy and it manages to get your imagination going. The music, the shot choices, the pacing, the production design and the attention to detail (from tiny props to complicated visual effects) all build to an entertaining result.

Credit should also be given to the lead actors. Karl Holtz fully sells his role as a grizzled, restless journeyman and mentor with a longstanding bar tab. Jared Odrick plays Kevin, the gentle giant and reluctant newbie. Mr. Odrick embodies the part well – completely playing against his tough guy image. You can't help but root for his character and I would love to see Odrick fill in for many more roles in this magical world.

Which leads me to the script itself. The characters and set pieces created by writers Peter Fenton, Ausin Haitos and Bradley Hawkins are delightful. The execution and promise of this film as concept are inventive and imaginative. Again without giving too much plot away, the cleverness of Kevin's missions and the purpose of his prize are handled with great comedic timing. The montage of uses in the field is laugh out loud funny and unpredictable. Also a delight was Alex Pires as the agency's secretary, Patrick. Improvised and/or scripted, Mr. Pires totally steals the last act and introduces us to new directions for Kevin's future. Again, it would be great to see where else the creators could take this open ended story.

Dadley Productions last film, Roller Coaster, took many winning turns on the festival circuit. I fully expect to see Filling In do the same and take home some well deserved awards this year!

Fun short built on creative premise!

Good performances by two mains. Quality writing, pacing, editing, photography, music and direction all lead to an overall entertaining experience. Liked the way it "leads" you to it's conclusion. Music is definitely two thumbs up! To review better would need to provide spoilers which don't want to do. Go see it - you won't be disappointed!

Great humorous short film about the tooth fairy.
lindadolan23 May 2017
I recently had the opportunity to see the award winning short film "Filling In" at the Allen Theater. Dadley Productions created a film that kept me laughing from the beginning to the end. Director Brad Hawkins did an outstanding job directing this cleverly written film starring Jared Odrick and Karl Holtz. These actors had great chemistry on the screen and Odrick's portrayal of the tooth fairy was hilarious. In this film, Odrick is coached by Mike (Karl Holtz) as he embarks on a new career as the tooth fairy. Odrick's shear size as he attempts to collect teeth and leave money creates a number of hilarious scenes. Karl Holtz does a fantastic job as a restless mentor to the new tooth fairy (Odrick). The writers Peter Fenton, Austin Haitos and Bradley Hawkins created an imaginative short film that left me wanting more. I would love to see more episodes of this film! Last year Dadley Productions film, "Roller Coaster", won many well deserved awards. "Filling In" is bound to get the attention of reviewers and potentially win many well deserved awards this year!

Worth the wait
meganheefner12 May 2017
After seeing the teaser trailer a couple of months ago, I was instantly excited to view the full film and pleased that it premiered so close to my home. The concept of a larger than life tooth fairy is visual comedy gold, and the various roles were inhabited by individuals who committed to the parts. The creative camera angles of the film added to the concept in a unique way. The editing must have been difficult, but appeared flawless. The musical score, which has already won an award, set the tone for the entire film and helped to suck the viewer into the magical world created by Hawkins. This sophomore production was well worth the price of admission and cannot be more highly recommended by this viewer.

Funny, funny, funny

I had the opportunity to take my family to see "Filling In" and we LOVED it! The film is a comedy-fantasy short film by award-winning director Bradley Hawkins (Roller Coaster) that will keep you smiling from beginning to end. This lighthearted story follows Kevin (Jared Odrick and Mike (Karl Holtz), two equally intimidating men as they attempt to work together in their highly unusual profession. The dialogue is quite funny, but you may actually laugh more at some of the visual humor. Either way, you'll laugh a lot. And keep an eye out for "Patrick" the receptionist (Alex Pires) in a very humorous role. Composer Jim Casella's original score captures the whimsical nature of the film perfectly. Perhaps most important, this movie will answer some of your most burning childhood questions. Enjoy!

Another great short from this new director
lms-6620626 April 2017
"Filling In" is the 2nd short (following the award winning "Roller Coaster") from director Bradley Hawkins. It's a crazy concept where merely the absurdity of its lead character (played by an NFL football player) will have you laughing. Hawkins film-making has made me a fan of the short film, as well as the independent arts theaters that are trending even in the smaller towns of America. This is sure to be another award winner on the film festival circuit.

Completely magical!
kroe-2257917 May 2017
Filling In had me smiling from ear to ear from beginning to end. Watching giant Jared (Kevin) morph into the fantasy role of the delicate tooth fairy as Karl (Mike) coached him along the way was beyond hilarious. Brad Hawkins did an outstanding job directing this short film, and I am not surprised that awards are rolling in for this project. This film hooked me from the start and left me wanting more...I cannot wait to see this again! Amazing work cast and crew!

Comic Gold!
onemeantweet18 May 2017
After missing out on Dadley Productions' first short, Roller Coaster, I was beyond excited to finally get a chance to see one of the films from this dynamic father/daughter duo (Bradley and Sarah Hawkins). Let me tell you, it did not disappoint! This film will have you laughing from beginning to end. It's no surprise that the film has already scooped up awards for screenplay, directing, acting, editing, and the score and I'm sure it will be picking up many more. The original score fits perfectly with what is going on visually. Jared Odrick (Kevin) and Karl Holtz (Mike) are brilliant in their roles. You would never know this is their first time on film! Alex Pires (Patrick) is comic gold. This is definitely a film that you do not want to miss. I can't wait to see what's in store next for Dadley Productions!
