The phrase "Normal For Norfolk" is thought to have its origins in the British medical profession. The phrase, or the initials "NFN", are thought to have been used in a derogatory fashion by doctors to indicate a patient who had a rustic streak or to express exasperation with a patient who was unable to describe their symptoms. More generally it has come to mean a dim-witted or eccentric person, event or action typical of an uneducated country bumpkin - though frequently such people or actions can actually reveal a cunning inventiveness.
