Co-Owner of a Lonely Heart

April's sharing of her her heart with the Shadow kin leader is making her stronger while he tries to reclaim his heart.

April's father has been released from prison and has turned up at the family home but April is showing force and anger that she is channelling from the Shadow kin and this is making those around her concerned especially Ram as he has grown even more closer with her.

At the school Miss Quill has met the new headmistress and she seems to be more knowing of events yet can she be trusted or the new governors? All of a sudden sinister flower petals are multiplying all over the place and they can draw blood.

It was a busy episode but something felt underwhelming to me. Maybe the Shadow kin are not as interesting villains or I have not quite bought into April's and Ram's relationship or it just felt a bit too cheesy.

The team take on the Shadow kin......again.

Warning: Spoilers
April faces an incredibly challenging time, the fact that her heart is shared with Corakinus is having strange effects on them both, he's feeling her emotions, while she is feeling physically stronger, feeling his war like mentality. She also has to face up to her recently released father Huw, whom she still despises. New head teacher Dorothea Ames is quickly installed, aware of Quill's situation with Charlie. Blood thirsty petals are slowly sweeping through, feeding and multiplying, seemingly unnoticed.

I'm not a particularly big fan of the Shadow Kin, this is the second time, they'll clearly be in the next episode, they're definitely guilty of over using them. April's story of her dad was good, and Con O'Neill played the part well. Polly Quesnel is a welcome addition as the new headmaster, she's a charismatic actress, they character has mileage. I love the sub story with the petals, it's been done in a subtle way and could build into something. Quill was essentially sidelined for this episode.

Watchable, but felt like a filler episode 6/10

The Petals of Doom

Warning: Spoilers
It took four episodes but it seems Class has finally found its footing. This is the most eventful episode yet and has some great moments despite being let down in some areas.

I'll get the worst bit out of the way first, the Shadow King and his race are still not particularly good monsters. They don't have many interesting qualities and the CGI castle they live in doesn't look like something that fits in the Whoniverse. However, the Shadow King leads to a good plot this time as April is slowly consumed by him more and more, with sudden bursts of rage in which she carries his two swords. The slow-motion sword slashing is silly and over-the-top but it leads to a shocking ending as she attacks her mother. Her relationship with Ram feels shoehorned in though, it just happened too quickly and it's weird how he treats her like someone he's been in love with for so long when in reality they've barely got to know each other. Their relationship is basically just a device to get the plot moving.

The most interesting aspect of the episode though is the arrival of killer petals. Their familiarity mixed with just the right amount of creepiness make them the show's most memorable creation so far. It might sound strange calling killer petals the best monster yet, but they're not so in- your-face and they do what many of Doctor Who's best monsters have done: make something that we recognise and usually see as harmless into a deadly threat. The way they could multiply and cover the world is a brilliant idea. The threat also leads to an interesting deal made between Quill and the new headmistress.

So in all a much better episode that shows this series shouldn't be written off just yet.
