Cindy is referred to as "our own Mata Hari", who was a Dutch exotic dancer (real name Margaretha Zelle) in Europe during WWI. Due to her notoriety, she became the epitome of the femme fatale and master spy/seductress after being convicted of espionage and executed by firing squad in France. However, her true involvement was extremely minimal and virtually ineffectual, her "secrets" often referred to as mere gossip. The path to her capture was strewn with questionable and dubious testimonies and most probably invented accounts of her activities, she being used as a scapegoat to send a message to the public as a warning against loose morals and feminine independence while simultaneously obscuring the French military's own failures of the time. Publicity of her life and trial has risen to the level of urban legend and myth.
