Two For The Price Of One
A two-masted ship sits in the water. It blows up. Then we see it again.
I'm not sure why. I strongly suspect it's because an explosion doesn't take that long, even when you allow for enough time to have the stuff that flew up in the air come back down. At this time, a film had a set length of about 50 seconds, dictated by the length of film in the camera. An explosion doesn't take that long, until you start talking about blockbuster bombs and nuclear explosions. So, to fill up the film, they printed it twice. Or perhaps they blew up another, similar boat.
It was directed by Alexandre Promio, who had been working for an optician until he went to the Lumieres in 1896.
