A short film in itself

Watch it even if you're not going to watch the whole series. Just watch it.

Perfect

Good acting (so, so good), good presentation, awesome music, good screenwriting. EVERYTHING is good in this pilot.

It's a MUST-WATCH even if you don't feel like following up with the rest (you should thought, at least through season 1).

It Looks Pretty Good!

I saw this pilot a couple years ago and enjoyed it. But then I dropped from the viewership. This sets up, nicely, a group of characters who seem worth watching. It also works as a nice expository feature, developing an interesting plot with some peripheral issues that must be dealt with. The writing seems intelligent and the acting well done. There is a nice chemistry at work. I am now committed to pull this up and start moving through it.

Absolute perfection. Happy to watch more, but this was so good it could have been a short film on its own.

Pilot (#1.1)

Warning: Spoilers
A nice pilot episode introducing us to the characters. It is all made on their 36th birthdays. Pretty well done, in less than an hour it shows us stories that we want to follow. The whole birth story is pretty dramatic and well done. And I liked the story of how Randall got adopted by the family. Him meeting his dying father now will be a nice plot line. The first time they met was a really nice scene. I also like Kate's new boyfriend. "The funny fat guy from the fat class". HE makes one actually want to laugh between all the tears.

Amazing

Amzing, heart-warming with a very pleasant surprise at the end.

A wonderful mix of humor, emotions, good script and acting in one mix.

Highly recommended!

Good pilot

"This Is Us"' pilot is an assured episode that introduces us to some very interesting characters, even if it falls into some cheesy and predictable moments.

The story introduces us to four characters whose birthday falls on the same day, four characters who are turning 36. We have Jack Pearson, whose wife is pregnant with triples. And then we have three more: a couple of twins: Kevin and Kate, the first an actor with an identity crisis, the second also having her own problems; and Randall, who has just found out his father is still alive and where he is. We will see how their lives evolve and interrelate in small vignettes that develop the characters and the story-line, jumping from one of the characters to the other.

For a pilot, this first episode is quite interesting. The plot is not overly complicated, and easy to follow, but it offers emotion enough that we will be involved with the stories quite soon. The direction is assured, and the characters are interesting, with quite good acting that makes us care for them even in the weakest moments of the pilot. Too bad for those couple of seen-a-million-times moments.

This is a good start. Let's hope the good acting and involving story lines continue, and that the most cheesy moments are kept to a minimum.

No appeal

Could not get past the first half, waiting for something meaningful to happen, or at least a promise of something appealing.

"Take the sourest lemon life has to offer and turn it into resembling lemonade"..

Warning: Spoilers
It'll likely be easy for more cynical TV viewers to turn their nose up at NBC's new series, This is Us, with its openly emotional music playing over openly emotional moments. However, if you're willing to embrace the show's heart on sleeve approach, there's a lot to appreciate here.NBC has done what HBO and Netflix do made the best comedy drama of recent years..

I'll admit to rolling my eyes a bit at how earnest and somewhat cliché This is Us felt initially, but as the pilot continued, it quickly began to grab ahold of me. The script by series creator Dan Fogelman (Tangled, Galavant) is emotionally manipulative, but it's successfully manipulative. Fogelman's witty, thoughtful dialogue, helps to quickly establish a history to these characters, while the cast all give strong performances, showing a group of people all feeling introspective for very different reasons.

From the moment the pilot begins, it's difficult not to wonder how these characters are connected – or if they will somehow become connected by an event that has yet to occur. Suffice to say, the answer to this question is given by the end of the episode, and it's a good one. I'm sure a few people will guess it (though many will not), but it makes the scope of the series feel bigger than expected. At the same time, it offers a cool payoff that makes the pilot a very satisfying viewing experience in and of itself, telling its own story.

This is Us' three different stories are involving and the twist it offers at the end is effective as far as giving us a new perspective on what is occurring. I have no idea if the show will continue to be as strong, but the pilot is a notably strong one that feels like a short film of sorts, as these people all go through a particularly notable and impactful day.As it seems jack and Rebecca are the parents of three children Randall,Kate and Kevin. How they managed to show us that was just unbelievable,a great directed and well written after all..

Well we have a few 10's and a 5, now we have a 6

I'm doing this correctly, I have only watched the Pilot so far. Anyway, anything with Mandy Moore and Justin Hartley automatically gets a huge head start.

Ok, so this is the deal. I like the premise but the director/producer whatever really laid it on thick and as the gentleman who gave it a 5 review mentioned - it is forced and the music detracts from the "drama".

And one of the 10 reviews says this is better than the Lost Pilot. So, envelope please, 1,000,000 people were surveyed and the top 2 answers are on the board. Lost with 999,999 votes and This is us with 1 vote.

In no way am I saying this sucks, but it is very uneven. The highs - damn that baby Doctor is good and I like Justin just saying No. And for the most part I like how Justin's sister started her arc. That's enough for now, I suspect that as a viewer if you have a personal connection with any of the stories you will like it better than an objective viewer - but that's neither here nor there. Cheers.
