Insidious: The Last Key (2018)

Goofs

Insidious: The Last Key

Edit

Continuity

(at around 27 mins) When Ted leads Elise, Tucker and Specs to the bedroom blocked off by all of the books/bibles, he tucks the red one under his arm. In the next shot, it's no longer under his arm as he moves the bookcase. He then puts it under his arm again before opening the door to the room. At no point is he shown setting the book down.
(at around 24 mins) When the trio first arrives at the front door of the house, the ice cream sandwich that Tucker is eating gets larger, smaller, and changes shape several times.

Factual errors

(at around 15 mins) In one scene Elise says that she can't forget the look on her mothers face while she was dying. But in that actual scene she had her back turned towards her mother and never looks back. She also was having a fit at that very moment. There's no way she would have seen her face.

Revealing mistakes

Elise's childhood house was a crime scene due to the murders which took place there, the kidnapped person who was discovered there and the fact that the owner was killed there. It would have been off limits for days or weeks.

Elise and the others would have been in serious trouble by going into the home and they certainly wouldn't have been able to spend the many hours in the home that they did as the police would have either patrolled it or would have left a patrol car on the scene in such a rural area.

Miscellaneous

(at around 41 mins) It's clear from the narrative that Elise and her brother have not seen one another for at least five decades. How or why they would recognize one another despite not having remained in touch over that period of time is never explained. This is especially true as they have changed radically from the way that they looked in their youth.

Errors in geography

While the film is set in New Mexico, the terrain shown in the film is clearly Southern California and not New Mexico. This is especially apparent in several scenes where yucca trees and Monterey pines are shown in the background.

Plot holes

If Elise's father worked for a prison and the house was on the prison's grounds, it would belong to the state. Even if the state closed the prison, it would still own the property and it would likely close the housing down or demolish it.

It certainly wouldn't sell it with all of the personal furnishings and belongings from 40-50 years ago in the houses.

Boom mic visible

(at around 53 mins) While Elise is in the basement behind the door an overhead microphone is clearly visible.
