Homer fills a super soaker squirt gun with lemonade and Marge asks him what he is doing. He tells her he is filling his with lemonade, Carl is filling a super soaker with iced tea, and they are going to "Arnold Palmer" Lenny. He then explains to her that Arnold Palmer was a golfer who invented a drink that is half iced tea and half lemonade. Sadly, by coincidence, Arnold Palmer passed away September 25, 2016, the day this episode first aired.
Chalmers and Skinner can be seen impersonating the Blues Brothers in the background at one point.

A similar event occurred on London during the construction of 20 Fenchurch Street (commonly known as The Walkie Talkie). Areas under the glare of the reflected sunlight were recorded as over 100°C (212°F) giving it the nickname 'The Fryscraper', before changes were made to the Windows.
Chief Wiggum does an impression of Rodin's The Thinker. The voice actor of Chief Wiggum, Hank Azaria, actually voiced the character of The Thinker in Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian (2009).
In the "film" of young Burns' disastrous performance of 1913, we see Charlie Chaplin, Babe Ruth and Itchy the Mouse (modeled after Mickey Mouse) in the audience. Chaplin is dressed in his "Tramp" persona which did not appear until 1914 and Mickey didn't make his first appearance until 1929.
