Dee Dee appears in traditional Japanese dress for a taiko (drum) performance. What Cynthia mockingly calls a diaper is a fundoshi or loincloth, though momohiki or loose-fitting work trousers are also common. Dee Dee also wears a hachimaki, a headband emblazoned with the rising sun, to keep sweat out of his eyes.
The episode title comes from the English translation of "Mon coeur s'ouvre à ta voix," the title of a French aria from Saint-Saens' Samson and Delilah. This is the aria that Alessandra is singing when she loses her confidence and runs away. In the opera, Delilah sings it to seduce Samson into revealing the secret of his superhuman strength.
Hailey (Lola Kirke) is referred in this episode as "Miss America". Kirke starred in the movie Mistress America (2015).
