Quotes

  • Jacob : Okay. I've got a serious question.

Cole Salinger : This isn't going to be a serious question.

    Jacob : Water and cereal!

Cole Salinger : Well, that wasn't even a question, and no, that is a terrible idea.

Jacob : You don't even think it would be worth... trying?

Cole Salinger : Are... are you hungry?

Jacob : Well, I am talking about cereal.

  • Cole Salinger : Elle, it's really no problem.

    Elle Hart : Cole!

    Cole Salinger : Elenore!

    Elle Hart : Coleridge!

Cole Salinger : Elenore Middle Name Hart!

  • Cole Salinger : Okay, so I don't know how miserable it is to grow up on a farm with no money, but this episode with your dad... I've been there, Elle. My dad and I have been there. My dad and his brothers, and their father, and their grandfather - my great grandfather - they were all in the Navy. But that was their life, but I'm an artist. I'm a photographer! I mean, the only thing I've ever shot is a picture, but my dad didn't think anything of that. He assumed I wanted to continue on with the family tradition - basic training after high school... But I could never... It's not that I don't support the Navy, but it's just not my thing. My dad didn't get that, though. I mean, my mom was on my side, but Dad would not budge. He was heated. I was heated. So I told him to shove it... Went on my own, and later, my parents got divorced... Elle, listen to someone who's already screwed up and don't screw this up. Letting my family fall apart was the worst thing I could ever do. You have time to fix this - today.

Elle Hart : I'll try... But only if you try, too.

  • Cole Salinger : Well... What'd ya think?

Elle Hart : Episode two was my favorite.

Cole Salinger : The Empire Strikes Back.

Elle Hart : So that one is episode... two?

Cole Salinger : No. The Empire Strikes Back is episode five.

Elle Hart : The first one we watched was episode four.

    Cole Salinger : Right.

Elle Hart : So what are the first three episodes?

Cole Salinger : Okay, well, you don't have to watch them. They're not really that important. I mean, you can if you want to, but I will say that Ewan McGregor is pretty amazing. They actually just came out with a seventh one. It's great. It's really great.

  • Elle Hart : ...What time is it?

Cole Salinger : It is 2:13.

Elle Hart : I didn't realize how late it was!

  • Cole Salinger : Is that yours? The... Nissan? Well I'm assuming it wasn't exactly the car of your choice?

Elle Hart : Beggars can't be choosers.

  • Cole Salinger : Oh, Jacob. You know he actually told me that he thinks he's from Japan?

Elle Hart : He doesn't look very Japanese to me!

    Cole Salinger : I know! He doesn't.

  • Jacob : Okay, so there is so much road, right? And it all pretty much connects, right? But... What if technology gets better and, I don't know, we don't need roads anymore? You can't just pick up the roads and put them somewhere else!

Cole Salinger : How do you even come up with this stuff?

Elle Hart : You know, we have a little dirt road, and someone had to create a road to get to our little dirt road. Someone had to connect everything.

Jacob : But you see, that's what gives me my sneaking suspicion! So... Okay... What if all of the roads are a part of some secret villainous plot? Like, the government or something has some secret ruler that controls all of the roads for their diabolical plan?

  • Jacob : So... Remember when I was asking about roads? Th - That's a real thing: highway engineering. But uh... pretty sure... highway engineering isn't a malicious activity...

Elle Hart : Oh... That's unfortunate.

Cole Salinger : Very unfortunate. Great, Jacob.
