Was OK...
t-phommachanh17 October 2017
A story of a big superstar and his eventual fall from grace and how it has defined not only his career but himself as a person. This film delves a deeper look from his early rise to fame to the now famous incident which has now tarnished his reputation and how we hear it from his side. Although it starts off well it starts to feel more like propaganda which to me feels like a film already too late to have been made.

I cannot say too much but it is just your typical documentary which feels like it is to invoke sympathy for the disgraced singer. Being a fan of his music I felt compelled to watch this film to hopefully see a different side of him. At first it was good and fair for him to let him tell his side of the story and what happened (now we need Rihanna's side) but given all the detail and comments from other people in his life and their opinions it gave a "I know what i did was wrong but please sympathise with me" kind of vibe. I can give him credit for being aware of his actions and trying to do the right thing but it feels hard to accept any change given behaviours and incidents after that incident.

Here we see interviews from other celebrities who have worked with him and seem to know him on a closer level but it seems that they are there to defend him and let the audience realise that we are human and to accept Chris Brown as a human who has done the wrong thing but a fall from grace is the only way to learn to move back up because what other way can there be to go?

In the end I do see this a some kind of film that is trying to give Chris Brown some kind of redemption and a different point of view of his past behaviours. It doesn't seem to work very well as it tries too hard to make him become any bit likable as a person but we must remember that he has done his time and he is trying to turn around. The past will always be there to haunt him and people will remind him of it. Whether you like him or hate him he is defined by what actions he will take moving forward and if he's learned anything at all.

I can't say it was a great film but interesting enough that I was able to sit through it all. I cannot say it will redeem himself and what he's done.

Give it a chance but it doesn't feel like it will change your opinion of him as it kind of feels forced on you to.

OK doc, but way too late
wassupbruh16 October 2017
As another commenter mentioned, its like 6 or 7 years too late for this. It would have been right on time had it been only about his music, but a lot of it was discussing the incident. I would have liked to know more about his creative process too but overall, I couldn't turn it off. Chris Brown is extremely talented and yea he made a few mistakes so what.

Wish there was a 0 star option
ameliewinchester8 June 2017
Plot of the biography shows his rise to fame but basically sets him up to be a victim of labels and how his success has been ruined because of Rihanna. It seems like a pathetic call for pity without owning up for his actions. At first I thought this was some crazy celebrity nouveau-art-ironic-satirical piece but sad to say it isn't.

For fans who are watching it to justify and validate their belief that he is changed, you will be sorely disappointed.

For fans who are watching it since they believe it was just a bad PR moment that ruined a respectable man, I would suggest reading the official police statement pdfs of the incident.

Uninformative biography, an attempt to excuse abuse and violence. Not sure why his PR team thought it would be okay for him to make this documentary and dig up the past since the angle of his biography is poorly executed.

Warning: Spoilers
In his new documentary, Chris Brown is trying to deflect a fact that he's a woman beater. Movie focuses on his raise to fame and success and then how beating up RiRi took away everything he worked for. Blames his mistakes on everything but himself. Chris Brown needs to take more Ls to realize that he's irrelevant in today's music and show biz and needs to disappear forever into retirement .

I wish that i could 0 star this but you can only go as low as 1. L/10

Terrible
popularmmosarelife16 July 2017
Wish there was a zero option. His is one of the worst most dragging documentaries and Chris brown is an awful human being. I'm think I am now blind. This truly has some of the worst editing and screenplay possible. It's not interesting or gripping it kind of gets to a point where you just want it to be over.

Amazing talent
woumul22 October 2020
We all know he did a lot of things wrong. But with this doc, we see a whole different perspective on all those situations. I will never encourage the bad things he did, but I need to give him his credit. He can sing, dance, rap, paint, act etc. Even after several big mistakes he made, he still manage to be one of the best artists we have ever seen. As an artist, I think he's the best at what he does and I think there will never be an artist like this. Hands down GOAT

Abuse and Excuses
pensacolacomputer16 October 2017
This Documentary starts out how he grew up and became famous. A lot of people, even himself, start comparing him to Micheal Jackson, LOL...Give me a break. You will NEVER be as good as MJ, not even close.

Then it starts playing the sad, soft background music trying to tell his side of how he beat his girlfriend. There should have been both sides. He got what he deserved. He beat his girlfriend. During the "documentary" hes making excuses, his mom is making excuses, lawyers, friends...Everyone...He thought he was hot sh*t and thought he was above the law, he found out he wasn't. Once a beater, ALWAYS A BEATER AND ABUSER. Its either in you or it isn't. I feel sorry for the person you are in a relationship with now.

Then later after he says he changed, then the Good Morning America interview happens, he punched the window so hard it shattered. Thats also what he did to Rihanna's face. Then he gets in a fight over a valet $10 ticket. Then him and Drake bust a club all up and people get hurt. There's still 26 minutes left to the Documentary but I'm turning it off. Once a thug, always a thug. I used to be a fan, but now not a chance. You need to be in jail.

Outstanding & Honestly Moving
filup-150289 June 2017
The film was compelling and raw. Many people have their opinions about Mr. Brown because of the media and tabloids. But to hear his side from his own mouth, the mistakes his has made was truly real. I commend him because at the age of 17 when the incident happened he chose to admit to the crime not many young men would . This film is a lesson to many to think! Everything he has gone through and still goes through many would have taken their life. Great Film!

When the Scandals Overshadow the Talent
travishouze8 June 2017
It's north to impossible to fairly critique a documentary about any active pop stars life and outcomes with feeling the sense of judgement of being told "your a hater" or "it's made for the fans only". After seeing Justin Bieber's and even One Direction's films, I realized that these kind of films are tailor made to not involve uncomfortable conversations that may interfere with their brand. Chris Brown's Welcome to My Life isn't afraid to answer those questions, but forgets to explain why he connected with many in the first place.

For about the first 25 minutes, we get a very abbreviated how he shot into stardom, which feels too quickly rushed and underdeveloped given he had a strong 2 year run in 2005- 2007. There's no development of his creative process as a artist which is strange given this was filmed by his filming company. However, A lot of time is spent explaining "the incident", almost too much time that it gets uncomfortable how much he goes into detail of every moment. The biggest issue with Welcome to My Life is that doesn't change the perception that he wanted to put his music first as at least 45 minutes is given to his scandals and controversy, as his music is almost intentionally on the back burner.

If your a Chris Brown fan, I'm pretty sure you'll enjoy this film regardless. But as a documentary where people say "there's Michael Jackson and then there's Chris Brown", it doesn't leave anywhere near the creative impact.

Late and Pointless
Tv_MovieSnob21 June 2017
Warning: Spoilers
This documentary is 6 years too late I'm going to break it up into parts and add a little background info. Chris Brown and his team are highly confusing and that's putting it mildly the only thing this documentary does is give a bit of background info on his life that honestly if you truly cared to know you could piece together easily. So here we go.

1: Chris Brown talks about his abusive stepfather in depth how he was abusive and crazy to the point that he shot himself in the head yet he didn't die which made him even more psychotic and further traumatized Chris.

2. Chris Brown talks about the 09 incident with Robyn Fenty aka Rihanna and also gives us background info on how they met and also let us know that they were hitting and abusing one another beforehand because of Browns infidelity which makes sense they were both teenagers and both came from similar backgrounds of abuse in the home. He talks about how his honesty led to Rihanna physically abusing him she also initiated what happened that night and that being the first time he struck her with a closed fist, he had slapped her back and restrained her in previous altercations and they would talk about it afterwards vowing to never hit each other again yet lied to the whole world about her involvement.

3. He talks about the incident on GMA with Robin and how he didn't throw a chair through the window he punched the window out of frustration, his time in jail and he briefly talks about his "relationship" with karrueche tran and about his daughter Royalty. -The end.

Here's why I state it's pointless and too late the time for Chris Brown to defend and tell his side of the story has long since passed though its true Rihanna gave her blessing for him to tell his side of the story it's too late he should've held her accountable then but no he allowed her to lie to everyone and make us believe that she was blameless and not hitting him as well for reasons why I don't know and now with his recent ex gf ms. tran accusing him of the same thing which is abuse was granted a restraining order because he chose not to show up and defend himself and I highly doubt that he will file an appeal, a defamation lawsuit, a gag order and his own restraining order because it seems to me that Chris Brown thinks that being a man is about being macho and he's too ashamed to admit that women have hurt him whether it be physically or emotionally, he hasn't learned anything from his past decisions and I doubt he ever will. He is a creature of habit and a victim of circumstance it's been 6+ years and he's still in the same place mentally and emotionally smh.

In conclusion I would've actually liked to know the real Chris Brown and find out what his thought process is when it comes to defending himself and overall life decisions, he's a really charismatic, really talented, lovable guy I can tell he's not a psychotic or a bad person and that he really doesn't want to be hated by people but he's not making wise decisions he's not learned and the only thing this documentary shows is why he is the way he is now (bitter and angry) and sadly I don't know if he'll ever be that 16-19 year old guy (personality wise) that we once knew that seemed like the real Chris Brown idk who this impostor is but I hope he disappears soon. Perhaps we will have to wait for Welcome to My Life 2 to see that.

Truly incredible Documentary
This is the film that Team Breezy has been waiting for. Team Breezy already knows that Chris is a good guy, just crucified in the public eye, so if you're a big fan, like me, you might not learn anything new from most of this film. Everything in this is fascinating, and all his haters should watch this, and maybe they'll see him in a new light, and be ready to give him another chance. This is a great film, I loved it, the interviews are really interesting, and you should see this film. Fan or not, you should watch this.

Love this documentary
sarasaroshca9 August 2017
It's an amazing documentary, made me cry a f****** river. It shows how strong he is even after all the bullshit that he been through. Shows how multi talented he is in literally everything. Shows that he is a human just like us and he makes mistakes just like any other human being. I find it really stupid that they're some people keeps constantly hating on him just for a mistake he did and he was forgiven by the victim himself, so for those people who are hating on him I find it really stupid and ridiculous cause that's non of your business he was forgiven for what he did and life goes on. And it showed me how the world is so mean, disgusting and have no mercy. The media and the press have been putting some much bullshit on this guy and they've always showed the Chris brown that they wanna show to the people. Also in this documentary it also shows how he great and amazing father he is. I totally agree and believe that if Chris without the 2009 incident he would have been as iconic as MJ and everybody knows that. In my opinion I think Chris is a legend and a big icon and people don't give him much credit for what he does and he's underrated. . This guy can do anything he's an entertainer and multi talented artist. I will forever admire his strength and ability . In my eyes I see him as the greatest legend

Chris tells his side of things, and it gets very intense with what he's telling
imaniabdul-2560410 June 2017
Warning: Spoilers
This film was amazing, Chris showed us who he really is. He let us in his life and told us his story, he told us his truth. Not only does this film show how difficult it can be as a public figure but also how difficult it can be growing up. This also shows that it's TWO sides to a story. All this time people made him out to be some "Monster" but he isn't. He's no devil and he isn't an angel, he's human. This also shows that women are abusive too, two people who happen to have anger issues and insecurities shouldn't be in an relationship together period. Chris and Rihanna BOTH had issues, they both abused each other mentally and physically but the only person who took the blame was Chris. They were in a toxic relationship at a very young age, they were young, immature, reckless and naive. But at that age you don't fully understand what the hell you're going through. I'm glad they changed now, and I'm very glad Chris finally told the real story. The media made everything one sided, when this definitely wasn't the case. Everything makes more sense now.

I am so proud of Chris Brown
tamakinlmiller11 October 2017
I think this was a great move for Chris. He waited a decade to share his side of the story which tells me he was not trying shame or through Rhianna under the bus. I've always known there was more to this story than the media put out. I am so happy for Chris and I can see the maturity in him. I do think he need some slack from the media and his critics. Chris was 18 when this happened. He was still a kid and his mind was not full developed into a man who could make wise decisions. We all know most boys do not mature as fast a girls. Chris I think you are still the next Michael Jackson just lay off the cursing so much and I think you will be good in the industry.

Honest and touching
xx-nipz-xx15 October 2017
I found 'Welcome to my life' to be a fair, honest, interesting and touching story! I thought the soundtrack, editing and general production of this film was perfect. I commend Chris for opening up about his personal life and for being real about it. Some of the reviews here are way too harsh and I think their authors would do well to take a long hard look in the mirror. If you appreciate authenticity then this is the documentary for you! Chris brown DESERVES a break and after watching this documentary I hope he gets exactly where he wants to be :)

This was really cool to get to know from his perspective.
shanellm15 October 2017
This movie was really great. I'm not spoiling or getting into much detail. I'd just like to say that the negative reviews are so unnecessary. All anyone can say is the one incident with Rhianna. If you did something so terrible In your life that everyone knows about and you want to move past it but everyone constantly keeps bringing it up, you'd feel like crap. People make mistakes, what he did wasn't right at all but did he learn from his mistakes? Yeah he did. Just because you imbeciles aren't a celebrity so unfortunately your mistakes can't be broadcasting around the world doesn't make you any better. Everyone out there has done something they have regret so much but there's not a rewind button to go back and change what you did but if you're going to judge him solely off of that one mistake and say the movie is bad because he's a "terrible person" then that's absurd. I'm writing this because people are way too judgmental, when they aren't even a great person their damn self.

One of the best documentary
abhi-btr28 September 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Those who wrote shitty reviews about him are probably his hater and that is acceptable. He is a big artist, he will surely have haters and for those who think he has not changed, God gifted him with a daughter If God can do that, It means he has changed for his family, loved ones and fans. The documentary has great music I literally get goosebumps watching it. And for those who didn't like shame on you cause you don't understand music and art.PEACE

Surreal
norahkkim27 April 2019
Call me insane, but this doc does not deserve the rating that it holds. A lot of the bad reviews are biased which are completely unfair. This documentary was not meant to generate pity from the audience, Chris said so himself, he admitted to all his sins, for god sakes the man wasn't asking for forgiveness, he used the platform to show people that he overcome something that is hard to overcome and he's allowed to do that. I'm not a hard core Chris Brown fan, but I'm a journalist and I know how the press can really ruin someone's life, and people need to consider the hard core facts that there's mitigating factors to the incident notwithstanding the fact he literally pleaded guilty. So he knows what he did was wrong, you can't tell a man he's wrong repeatedly when he knows. I don't envy his case, but I'm proud of this documentary because it did what it was meant to do; portray a perspective 100s of tabloid press outlets can never do.
