- Lower East Side Icon Taylor Mead (Poet/Actor/Artist) and Warhol Superstar Ultra Violet (née Isabelle Collin Dufresne) are the focus this documentary short. The sharp witted talents share their stories of Warhol, The Factory, filmmaking and Manhattan in the very pivotal 1960s.
While many documentaries have been made about the great American cultural touchstone Andy Warhol, the best of them focus on Warhol's inner circle. This fun, enchanting story intimately examines Taylor and Ultra's years at the center of Warhol's orbit. The film captures the ambivalence that so many of those closest to Warhol demonstrate toward him, a fierce and abiding regard for his centrality, wrapped up with a touch of resentment.
The film utilizes rarely seen original Warhol footage obtained from The Andy Warhol Museum. Unique layering is created by the filmmakers by combining over 50 years of material and interviews. One segment layers the 1964 Warhol film, 'Taylor Mead's Ass' with a behind-the-scenes 1964 William John Kennedy photo of Warhol filming 'Taylor Mead's Ass,' with the original 1964 footage from the film that Warhol is capturing in the 1964 Kennedy photograph; followed by Taylor Mead some 50 years later candidly discussing his ass from Warhol's film.
Other scenes layer vintage photographs, original film clips and interviews with Ultra Violet, the famed Love Artist Robert Indiana and Andy Warhol Museum Director Eric Shiner. Taylor Mead and Ultra Violet take the lead roles, with special appearances by Andy Warhol and Warhol film stars Jane Holzer, Lou Reed, Dennis Hopper, Edie Sedgwick and Salvador Dali.
