As the trial continues prosecutor Ms Price exposes the married Costley as having had an affair with a second woman and not as mentally damaged as he claimed, more a violent fantasist. When Yvonne takes the stand she recounts her rape by Selway, eliciting sympathy from the jury but is ultimately forced to admit her affair with Costley by his barrister Ms Bonnard .
