Eris is carrying Jones snowboard with himself. That company was founded in 2010 and Eric was lost in mountains in 2004.

One scene depicts Eric encountering a pack of wolves. The real Eric got lost in 2004. There had not been a wolf sighting anywhere in California for over 100 years, until 2009. There are still no wolves known to be in the Mammoth Mountain area.

The scene depicting Eric falling into a frozen over body of water did not really happen. However, the real Eric did fall into an actively flowing river while crossing it and slipping while trying to drink from it.

The movie depicts Eric's mom, Susan, personally going to the cabin and ski patrol HQ. While Susan really did initiate concern over Eric's possible missing status, she contacted Eric's dad about her concern. Eric's dad and stepmother were the ones whom really went to the cabin and authorities.

The movie depicts Eric having gone snowboarding at a resort in Nevada. The real life Eric got lost while at Mammoth Mountain in central California.

The sounds that the wolves make are not all noises that real wolves would make. There is also the sound of coyotes yipping, mixed in with the deep growling of some type of big cat.

He is completely under water for several moments, which would saturate everything he carried on him. Yet his cell phone and radio are still functional.
