- This animation is intended to provoke memories of past experiences in the viewer by isolating their connection to reality and immersing them in an unfamiliar, dream like space. Using a self-narrative method, Fang Qi draws upon her own memories of a garden in her childhood, an experience that has deeply affected her views of human society. In this garden she grew older, chased after a friend, witnessed the death of family member and taught herself to become highly sensitive to nature. In this semi-isolated environment she developed unique views on life, she felt more a part of the nature surrounding her in the garden than part of human society. While this feeling of alienation and sensitivity to nature was gradually dispelled by the hardship of daily life, in these fragmented illustrations and broken compositions she walks once again in the reflections of struggles, bitterness, joyfulness and loneliness. The animation is companied by independent sound tracks made by Adam Potts and Ben McVinnie. The tension created by the disharmony between the three mediums, video, text and sound creates a disturbing environment. This atmosphere of distress generates a feeling of alienation and isolation and incites the audience to avoid the pit of the mundane.
