The Scientific Side of Species

Species: Engineering Life (2007)

*** (out of 4)

This sixteen-minute featurette originally was released on the MGM disc of SPECIES and has since been ported over to several other releases including the Blu-ray. This featurette basically interviews a bunch of very smart people as they talk about how realistic the plot of the movie is. The idea of morphing forms of life is the main focus as these very smart people discuss the possibility. For the most part this was a fascinating documentary, although I'm not sure how many people are going to actually be interested in it. I thought the subject was rather interesting and those interviewed certainly know their stuff but at the same time I think they're giving the film a tad bit too much credit. Still, fans of science fiction will be interested.
