Steven Seagal in Sniper: Special Ops (2016)

Goofs

Sniper: Special Ops

Edit

Continuity

When "Jake" (Steven Seagal) climbs and descends the stairs (presumably a stunt double, as his face is never seen), he is wearing a ballcap that says ARMY and a black headset. At all other times, Jake wears a ballcap with an Oakley logo and dark olive green shooting earmuffs, and the earmuffs disappear later in the film.
As Jake watches Abdul's fighters inspect Doc's body in the street, Doc is clearly not wearing a backpack. The fighters leave and Jake removes a large backpack from Doc's body.
When Jake reaches the top of the stairs and reenters the room after retrieving Doc's backpack, he is inexplicably no longer wearing the earmuffs or headset that he was wearing moments before.
Jake fires at the bad guy twice and then manually works the sniper rifle's bolt to reload. As he's using a bolt-action rifle, he should have also had to work the bolt after the first shot, but he was not depicted doing so.
AT 18:56, Colonel Jackson (Dale Dye) appears wearing a battle dress uniform. The service branch tag on his uniform (U.S. Army) is affixed to the uniform on the wrong side. According to regulations, it is worn on the left side of the uniform. Later in the film, the tag is on the correct side. (Peculiar occurrence for Dye, who is a retired Marine Officer and who had a second career appearing in many military roles in movie and TV as well advising movie personnel on proper military topics.)

Factual errors

A sniper performing overwatch should be positioned at a great distance from the combat zone so they can observe and report activities to friendly troops closer to the action (a vital role when non-combatants may be in the area) and fire at the enemy with relative impunity. The sniper should not be able to rejoin the main force by simply crossing the street.
The sniper rifle makes the "phew" sound typical for suppressed gunfire in movies. High-powered long-range rifles are impossible to fully suppress because the bullets travel at over twice the speed of sound and make a loud sonic "crack" as they travel downrange. Although the suppressed muzzle blast makes it difficult to ascertain the position of the shooter, combatants in the target area will still hear the rifle fire and realize they are being fired upon.

Revealing mistakes

When Jake (Steven Seagal) leaves to get doc's medical kit and water he gives Rich (Daniel Booko Daniel Booko ) his pistol. When he ejects the mag to check for ammunition it is empty. you can clearly see there is no bullets in the mag therefore useless to defend himself.
The first shots fired by the sniper rifle sound like they're from a suppressed weapon, and the guy holding the flask didn't hear the shot, but the weapon has no suppressor.
As the team drives away from the base to retrieve the disabled truck, a shot of their truck rounding a curve in the road is repeated twice.
Except for the one shot that partially blinds one of the team members, none of the enemy combatants' numerous missed shots seem to hit the Humvees and the buildings near the heroes.

Miscellaneous

When Bashir attempts to speak to Jada, the video subtitles misidentify the language as Arabic. Afghanistan is not an Arab country and the Arabic language is not commonly spoken by Afghan natives; additionally, Bashir tells the others that she is speaking a language other than Arabic.

Crew or equipment visible

A large rectangular theatrical light is reflected in Jake's sunglasses several times while he's inside the room with Rich. The light periodically changes position and orientation.

Plot holes

The team decides to repair broken truck. As both trucks are only partially loaded and there are several people available, it would be far more efficient and less risky to position the trucks back to back, load the ammo and fuel onto the working truck, and leave the scene. LTC Jackson ordered Vic to destroy whatever they couldn't bring back, clearly implying that the goal of the mission to prevent the materiel from being captured, and that Vic should not put his men at risk trying to recover it.
