Dumbed down science for air heads,
There are a great many failings of this show so it's better to start with the positives. The subject matter is important and has potential to educate young minds and perhaps inspire younger generations to investigate and educate themselves, the ambition to make the series carbon neutral is also an excellent undertaking.
However, the science is dumbed down beyond all reason. The amount of shots of the host smugly smiling like a narcissistic Cheshire Cat as she interviews people from her phone, many of which are on a beach for some reason are incredibly irritating. I guess this might be aimed at the American market where smug, blonde white women make good hosts because appearance is ranked supremely above intellect and actual charisma.
It is possible to create solid, accessable, educational media content without entirely dumbing down science and language. Science doesn't have to be boring, it can be entertaining, admittedly striking a balance is not always easy. This series, doesn't even try. It's as if the host employed the most sycophantic team of writers in the universe to enhance her enormous ego and the side effect was a little bit of scientific knowledge passed on to anyone who can tolerate her for the duration of each episode.
I'd love to extoll the virtues of this series but it's pretty much impossible to get passed it's many failings. The only reason for rating it four stars is due to the snippets of scientific information and the laudable aim of making it carbon neutral which is tremendous. But my word, this, is, garbage.
