The Hangman's secret.

A particularly good episode, a cracking story, which is deep and intriguing. The characters have a great deal of depth, particularly Lee and George Hammond (John Duttine.) I really enjoyed the conclusion, unusually, you get to know who the culprit is fairly early on, time is taken to prove the perpetrator's guilt. I thought the scene between Father Brown and George in the restaurant was exceptional, Williams and Duttine putting in superb performances.

The production values are superb, it looks outstanding from start to finish. It has a real depth, and is incredibly sincere.

The acting generally was a very high standard, and the slice of humour added by Mrs McCarthy was welcome, another chance of romance that doesn't quite come off. Lady Felicia, as always looked sensational.

Warning: Spoilers
This is an episode that really advocates for the abolition of the death penalty because of a massive miscarriage of justice which culminates at the end. Anyway, it makes one think about the idea of the death penalty and Father Brown makes the message clear.

I like the idea of Father Brown and the Scooby Gang solving crimes 10-15 times a year in Kembleford, so they have to keep their wits about them to keep Kembleford safe lest it becomes like Headington in Oxford, UK. I'm enjoying watching the early seasons of Father Brown, along with the early seasons of Magnum, P. I. (the original one of course).

The Hangman's Demise
Prismark102 February 2017
Retired hangman Henry Lee is celebrating but one of his last victim he pulled the noose on might had told him the name of the real murderer before he went down.

Now Lee is confronted by his mother, Iris still protesting her son's innocence and wanting to know what her son told Lee. Father Brown investigates the former hangman is poisoned and Iris is the main suspect. Meanwhile Mrs McCarthy is being romanced by a former policeman.

It is just a shame that the two story strands were always bound to get entwined meaning you get a good idea who a likely suspect is going to be. The perils of being a guest star in a mystery series.
