Se7en Meets The Excorsist
TrentPraeger9 January 2022
Caught this on Tubi, but couldn't find it on Amazon Prime for whatever reason? Who knows. Anyway. Grungy, gritty style permeates the picture. While it is a lower budget film, the unpolished nature is used to great effect. The filmmakers lean into the unsettling feeling while utilizing some fairly impressive locations (the church being the stand out). A treat for horror and thriller fans, this indie outing has a sinister edge that keeps you on your toes until the credits!

In the Catholic Church deacons are not allowed to hear confessions. Enough said.

Greasy Hair Comb Over is Horrible

Is this BS 2 hours long? The horrible acting and characters made me want to do anything else but watch. Glad I had to prepare a tax return while it was playing. The gratuitous "wanna be" gore and violence were weak and the script was worse. I didn't find any worthy character and the.

Is this about the devil or vampires? OMG what a waste of time. Then at the end.... Wait, there was no end.

Hitchcockian Suspense Thiller at it's finest!!

Tyler Cole presents an amazing "edge of your seat thriller in Deacon. I saw this film originally at a private screening in Los Angeles but recently found it on Tubi TV. The film held me captive from start to finish and I plan to purchase a copy on Venmo. This is a great example of what an indie film can do.

A Very Fun Watch
realdanbennett11 January 2022
Suspending reliance on strict fact will allow you enjoy this indie treasure. The filmmakers put a lot of effort and care into making this film look unique in spite of the lower budget. If they'd had higher funding, I can only imagine what they'd have been able to pull off. Practical effects and a passionate eye for the cinematographic approach make this rugged, dark film a thoroughly enjoyable watch.

Hidden Gem..
wowssweet10 January 2022
I was able to catch this on Vimeo, and I am glad I did. This is a Thriller style Indie film that is definitely worth the watch. I was a little confused at the start only, because it is a movie that has you guessing with a good twist at the end.. I don't wanna give away any spoilers, but I will say this... Some of it had me close my eyes for a second. 😂 I found myself asking 😱 did that just happen. I hope that there will be a sequel to this hidden gem.

Great indie

Great indie film. I watched this one on Tubi, it had ads but I don't make me them. I like lower budget films like this one. I like the look of the film and crazy idea. Tyler Cole was a good caste decision for the role, he pulled it off nicely. I wish that deacon would have tried to kill me, I would have got him!

Something New & Fresh
jaimejimenez-3108318 January 2022
Tyler Cole has given a fresh take on a thriller movie. Deacon makes you not only sit at the edge of your seat but it also makes you open your mind and think. I as well was invited to the private screening of the movie back a few years ago and will definitely be purchasing a digital copy of Deacon. I definitely recommend anyone watch this if you're looking for something new and fresh. I don't want to give anything away but believe me when I say, this is worth watching.

Thrilling Indie Tour de Force
keanureefers2 March 2022
While watching this film you get the sense you are seeing a future legend at work. Tyler Cole (Writer, Director, Lead Actor) delivers a genuine and nuanced performance. The whole cast is equally dedicated and all deliver wonderful performances. The story is intricate and magnetic, the flow of storytelling naturally pulls in the viewer. I recommend giving this hidden gem a watch. This is true independent cinema. Bravo !

Independent Film gem
drrandyweaver31 January 2022
I viewed this film on Tubi. It had an old-school quality that most movies do not have anymore. There was a lot of good dialogue that helped move the film along but kept you engaged on how everything would line up. Visually the movie was stunning. Great sets and visual scenes scattered throughout gave it a gritty street feeling. Excellent camera work and special effects keep the film exciting and, at times, the edge of your seat.

The only few issues were some quiet audio sections or when the music was louder than the audio, but that was only three scenes. Also, being married to a Catholic, there were some inconsistencies with the Catholic church but nothing that would affect the plot.

Worth checking out from an independent filmmaker that has a few other films under his belt that I will check out as well.

Story Driven Thriller
ccidanny28 January 2022
I was fortunate enough to see this Indie film in the big screen in downtown Los Angeles .

At its heart this film is more thriller than horror, though it has that as well.

It was very story driven which kept my interest throughout the film, the characters all served a purpose. At no point at the end of the film did I think that any character was pointless ( spoiler free review, you can watch this film on Tubi or Vimeo ).

If you like films in the style of Fincher or Shyamalan give this Indie film a try.

Suspenseful and Chilling!
muse72730 January 2022
This film starts with a slow burn and builds to violent and shocking twists and turns. The suspense mounts along with the unsettling score as the sinister happenings of this Gotham-esque city unfold. Featuring an excellent performance by writer/director Tyler Cole.

Dark and grit, a 90's throwback
ethan_murdoch28 February 2024
I realized something while watching this film, and then watching the director's cut. It's not really about catholicism or religion. It's actually a story about evil, and how it corrupts. The use of a deacon as the antagonist just gave an interesting layer, kind of like how Dexter was. Once I saw it through that lens, I could see a lot of subtleties in the performances. I liked how nothing is in your face about what it was trying to be, and at the end of the day it was entertaining.

I prefer the DC because I feel like the score was more in line with the tone of the film, as much as I appreciate the classic score to the original. Both are unique and different, yet house the same principle about evil in modern society.
