Art student Leonie Mertens is found by constable Anneke van der Meer who feels to reanimate her, a head wound from a fall being fatal, but the corpse was moved onto the road. She was studying restoration of castles and estates in Mecklenburg, mainly Neoclassicist. She even stayed at the "Schlösschen", a mansion owned by retired cabby Harald Schmitz, who invested his life savings to restore it, mainly himself, and is looking urgently for investors, the bank denying credit. Leonie rowed with Schmitz after making a historical discovery. Leonie was also interested in the nearby residence of the noble family von Gravenitz, getting an heirloom necklace and pregnancy out of an affair with son and heir Alexander, who is engaged to an industrial heiress to pay off haughty matriarch Hermine's bad investment debts.
