Not PRObation for sure
pensman17 February 2017
Warning: Spoilers
A shipwreck at sea sends a number of containers to wash up on the local beach, which send Jane's mom and her "boyfriend" Mick off on a shopping spree to loot while the looting is good. When the dead body of Ian Igby is discovered in a container, then Jane and Davey go to work. While Ian was out on probation, his probation officer insists Ian was one of the good ones. However, Granthan Naseby doesn't share that view. He had hired Ian because he was dating his daughter, Abby, and believes Ian betrayed his trust. And Davey also believes Ian had something to do with the shipwreck, but Jane isn't aboard on that one.

Turns out Ian died trying to fight human traffickers and help refugees , and lost his life as a result. Ian's girlfriend may be relieved to learn her fiancé was noble; but noble is still dead. And those Ian trusted while on probation; well, today you don't know who to trust.

Good episode EXCEPT for the offensive terminology

Warning: Spoilers
People are not illegal. The writers of this show seemed to forget that and instead used social conservative (aka offensive and deplorable) terminology to describe human beings. Jane (the main character) even says "illegal refugees". How can you be an illegal refugee?! You are either a refugee or you are not. Still, the episode was otherwise pretty good and I liked that Mick was actually doing the moral thing in trying to help the refugees. Davey seems to have a heart too, even though he - like Jane - does unfortunately use the word "illegal". I'm working my way through the series in order and I still hope the two main characters can start being better people like Mick.

Pre-Brexit people smuggling
safenoe12 October 2017
Warning: Spoilers
According to the BBC, the series isn't based on (or inspired by) the book The Coroner by M.R.Hall. Now that we've got that out of the way...I grew to like the Coroner as it progressed to series 2, and then the rug got pulled out by someone in TV authority so adios to series 3:( Not happy at all.

Anyway, here Jane investigates the death of shipping company employee Ian who was found dead by a shipping container washed up on Sherford Sands. Ian is black, and so is his parole officer, so thankfully no racial overtones here, although this was filmed before the historic Brexit vote. Talking of which, it turns out Ian tried to save refugees who were smuggled in a shipping container thanks to, believe it or not, the parole officer who was the "middleman".

Clint, the Coroner's Officer, looks so much like David Spade.

Also Davey works hard to prevent salvage theft.

One hilarious scene was the faux marriage proposal scene between Jane and Davey.
