The Story Of Robert
If you've ever dipped into "The Guinness Book Of Records" or even if you haven't, you may well have heard of Robert Wadlow. The tallest man who ever lived stood nearly 9 feet high at his peak; he was born at Alton, Illinois on February 22, 1918. Pituitary giants may be a novelty, but theirs is not a happy condition; they often have problems with their legs, especially their feet, and Wadlow was no exception, it was an infected foot that caused his death at the young age of just 22.
His may have been a short life, but he lived it to the full; although this documentary was aired 35 years after his death, it includes appearances by his contemporaries who share their memories of the man but especially of the boy. There is also archive footage, much of it charming. Even if you have met a bona fide giant, it is difficult to comprehend just how tall he was, and the problems he faced, problems that dwarfed his curiosity value. However, this miniature will help you understand.
