The brief ceremony Francis performs at the end of the harvest is an old tradition from Cornwall, England known as "Crying the Neck."
Francis holds up the last sheaf of corn said to contain the spirit of the harvest. This Neck will be preserved all winter and plaited into what is now called a Corn Dolly.
