What it means

The movie can mean many things to people who are open to the subtext of it. This is a psychological thriller, but has more on its mind than that. Pun very much intended. And our main character here has to fight against herself, but also against many circumstances from within and outside - even if she doesn't really actually leave her appartment.

Which is not just a plot point but also helps with the production of the movie of course. Yes this may be flawed and some of the acting/dialog is not really up to the scope and ambition it sets itself out to have. But overall it is original and has something to say. If you can dig that more than the obvious fallings this has, than you can have quite the interesting watch. And also rewatch if you decide to decipher more of what it stands for and what lies beneath

Stardom as a life goal.

A great psychological thriller and an original story. It keeps the viewer engaged throughout and is never predictable or clichéd. An important illness to explore and an effective exploration for sure. The acting is great throughout, the viewer is effectively made to feel for Veras. The camerawork is done very well and builds suspense and tension effectively throughout the film; similarly the editing is very precice, strict but effective and goes under the skin.

The moment in the basement that begins with the teacup - seemingly a surreal piece of filmmaking that is then explained by the door is great and totally original. The scene that follows is terrifying and very clever. A highly original and surreal portrayal of a woman's entrapment, a nightmarish exploration of what idealism can do.
