Great setup

In the immortal words of Harry Caray, HOLY COW!

One of the best episodes of the season so far. The murder investigation was relatively routine - we've seen how many gunshot victims in eight years? It's become so common, it borders on cliché - but the locale was an interesting choice, and the connection to LokSat was a nice touch. Did anyone else see that coming as soon as Perlmutter pulled the 8- ball of heroin out of the vic's mouth?

But what really struck me was the relationship between Castle and Beckett. Nathan and Stana have had a great chemistry for the past eight years, but it always seems to soar when Rick and Kate are at odds, especially when he calls her out on what he sees as irrational decisions or behavior; their blow-up arguments in 'Knockout' and 'Always' are also prime examples. And their scene in the interrogation room is no different. One of Castle's best scenes since his profession of love for Beckett in 'Always', and one of Beckett's best since her You're wrong" speech at 1PP in 'Hollander's Woods'. It's a bit disappointing neither of the leads have been nominated for Emmys yet. (Nudge, nudge, wink, wink)

And it was nice to see them finally reconcile their marriage. There was never any doubt in my mind that they would; in the three years they've been together, it's been crystal clear to me how much they truly love each other. The separation story was simply a plot device to give them an obstacle to overcome; it's like Castle says in 'For Better or Worse': theirs is a great love story, and what's a great love story without trials to overcome, that only the worthy can transcend?

All in all, it was a satisfying end to the first half of the season. Which begs the question: if that's how part one ends, what the hell is in store for part two?

Trying to buy this.

Warning: Spoilers
Going through the show Castle. The advantage I have over the other posters is that I know that show didn't last more than another dozen episodes. I never bought this business about Lokset and Kate's obsession and the idea of protecting her husband by basically dumping him. I would imagine that when the show aired, fans were not very sympathetic for Kate, wanted to kill Vikram for bossing her around about her marriage, and was hoping Castle would dump Kate for Haley, the nebulous new character that seems to have no purpose in the show.

Rick and Kate are back.

All in all, this is a good episode. I don't know what goes inside of those damn writers brain to f*ck-up the whole series. But this episode is much of resurrection of all the previous cock-ups in this season. By splitting Castle and Beckett they were trying to capture the old sexual tension. But instead it was huge let down, because the writing was just terrible and no one could stomach the reason and notion behind. It was becoming unbearable to see story taking such a disgusting take. Moreover Castle is turning more into CSI and Law & Order series. But we want more of inside and chemistry between Caskett. For instance; in Dexter, there was a perfect equilibrium of Crime and Drama. And they managed to keep it that way till the very end. But due to poor writing as well, people despised the finale. Somehow season 8 is just a jinx.

At last Rick and Kate kiss and make up as the writers just realized how stupid the whole thing was; and how audience were discontent with plot.

General Observation Not Just This Show

Warning: Spoilers
All in all 'Castle' has become one of my 'go-to' shows - it is one of my staple TV diets. Some episodes end up being better than others and (I am not personally admitting this) some episode, by some audience members, may be considered unwatchable. I completely understand, but I watch them anyways…I am a fan. I like the dynamics. The writers, directors and producers will try something new and different and if the folks don't like it…they will roll the storyline back. And to put the show next to other programs such as those who have managed to write themselves into holes they can't get out of (i.e. "Bones") or programs being infected with serious casting flaws (i.e. "Criminal Minds") or silly-sagas that are compelled to drag that PC ball-and-chain from episode to episode (i.e. "Supergirl", "Jessica Jones", etc.) – there is no contest…"Castle" trumps everyone. When time comes to remove life-support (i.e. "The Mentalist"), I am certain the producers will do the right thing. It is sad to see so many good shows, stumble from path of greatness; into the forest of mediocrity and end up floundering in the pool stupid. I thought that the show may tank after Kate and Castle got married, but they have managed to hold on. For me, the appeal did wane slightly, and recovery is slow, but progressing nicely. I agree, these two need to solve crimes together. The pithy repartee between the two main characters is essential to an enjoyable evening. The supporting cast is outstanding. I thought that his daughter may flub things up as she got older, and her youthful angst would just complicate everything. I was wrong. I really like how Molly Quinn has been tailored for her role as a PI. It suits her. Susan Sullivan is the only one who could play Mom-Castle. The pair of Esposito and Ryan is unbeatable. Unlike many other programs, egos seem to be in-check, and Beckett and Castle are the main story. Keep it up as long as you can…when it comes time to pull the plug…well. Do whatever is right to keep it a great. And when the time comes, end it on a plus note

Warning: Spoilers
1) Like so many other fans, I hate the whole LokSat thread. It's insulting and it's stupid. It's Deep State conspiracy crap at its worst. The close of this episode doesn't fix that. It makes it worse. It's just plain silly to think one woman, or even a couple, can take these people on. They took out the AG's team with no consequences. Beckett and probably Castle should have been dead twice over for every episode this season.

2) Likewise, I hate Vikram. He's a jerk and he is cruel to Beckett.

3) This episode does do one thing really well. The confrontation in Beckett's office labels this whole separation thing for what it is. It's idiotic and Kate is betraying Castle's trust. And of course the final scene is a positive step. But these things are not enough to make it a good episode.

4) There are plot holes galore in this episode. A cruise line takes a crime scene away right under the Captain's nose and there are NO consequences. Acosta takes the fall why?

5) What's with Beckett calling him Rick, more than once? And it's not consistent, nor does it have a real pattern.

6) Is Lucy spying on Castle?

7) Hayley can't replace Beckett. She is good as a fresh character, but the show is doomed especially when they "fire" Katic at the end of the yea.

8) Why has Alexis faded into the background these last few episodes? She can't replace Beckett, but she's done a great job as a stand-in a few times.

Writers Listen UP
kbfisher4 December 2015
Although this episode took a step in the right direction - the dialogue left much to be desired (e.g. why was Kate calling Castle, Rick?). Here what the writers need to do to bring this show off the chopping block:

1.) Castle & Beckett need to be back working cases together. 2.) Therefore, let Alexis and these strange minor characters take over the PI business. 3.) We LOVE Laney, Espesito & Ryan - we want more of them! 4.) Therefore, less of these new series regulars. 5.) Not sure how ... but bring back Gates. This actress was great on 24 and she ignites the show.

Good luck!
