- Bubonic and Tyrannia cast a spell which turns everyone's dreams into nightmares. At first, Jacob and Maurizio become convinced that the spell is harmless, but then when day breaks, the dreams come to life.
- Tyrannia catches Bubonic building a dream scanner in the middle of the night. She's incredulous, but Bubonic demonstrates the machine. First he tests it out on Mauricio, who is sleeping on Bubonic's bed. The image shows Mauricio dreaming of himself as a knight, jousting, winning the heart of a lady and getting distracted from her by cat food. Tyrannia is impressed with her nephew's invention and suggests he next try it out on the Mayor, who dreams he's being admired by an adoring crowd. "Politicians", she scoffs. "Try someone better!" So Bubonic scans the dream of the self-absorbed journalist Barbara Blabber, who dreams of receiving an award. Tyrannia's not impressed with that either, so she suggest they scan Maggot's dream. Maggot dreams of turning Tyrannia and Bubonic into boulders as punishment for their latest failure, leaving them both on the mountainside and walking away happily, only to run away from them after they are pushed down the mountainside by vultures. Unfortunately, their act of mirth wakes Maggot and causes him to appear before them and demand the spell of the week. Bubonic gets the idea of casting a spell to give people nightmares that come true when they wake up. Tyrannia takes credit for the idea and this causes them to start bickering on the way to the laboratory. Their chatter wakes Jacob, who had been dozing on a hat-stand. Jacob flies to Bubonic's room to wake Mauricio, and brings the bleary cat down to the laboratory. Bubonic and Tyrannia brew the potion and say the magic chant. Mauricio falls asleep as the spell is being cast, while Jacob observes. As green light shoots out of the cauldron, Jacob rushes out through the window and shields himself. Mauricio dreams once again of being a knight, but this time a dark dog knight rushes towards him, causing Mauricio to fall off his horse and flee. Mauricio wakes with a start and rushes towards Jacob. The two figure out that the wizards have been giving everyone nightmares, but Jacob thinks as far as spells go it's annoying, but harmless. However, the dog knight from Mauricio's dream appears. The two flee in terror. The knight chases Mauricio, but the cat gives him the slip. Jacob suspects that the spell has made people's nightmares come true. At the zoo, they try to get a riddle from Auntie Noah, but she's been affected by the spell, and can't think of one. Jacob catches on quickly and coaxes a riddle out of her: Only he who braves night's dark fear can make the bad dreams disappear; great big terrors become little and slight beneath our heroes' shining bright light. Jacob takes the riddle literally and tries to shine a circus spotlight on a dinosaur who was terrorizing a group of schoolchildren. It doesn't work, and the dinosaur only ends up chasing the duo around a circus tent. Meanwhile, the mailman is chased by his nightmare, a huge pack of dogs, while delivering empty videotapes to Tyrannia. He tosses the package to the witch, who complains that there's dog slobber on the package, and the dogs chase Tyrannia instead. While Mauricio and Jacob continue to work out Auntie Noah's riddle, the dog knight approaches them again. Jacob realizes that the riddle meant both "night" and "knight", and the "bright light" is whatever courage Mauricio can muster in facing the knight. He tries to get Mauricio to face his nightmare come true, but the cat is scared out of his wits. The knight swings his sword and crushes a trashcan. Jacob and Mauricio flee, and the knight pursues Mauricio. Mauricio flees down an alleyway and is cornered. Jacob, swoops in to save him and tries to distract the knight. The knight tries to strangle Jacob. Mauricio gets angry and berates the knight for harming his friend. The cat jumps up and decks the knight in the face. The knight collapses into an empty suit of armor and vanishes. Jacob congratulates Mauricio for standing up to his fear. The dogs from the mailman's nightmare vanish. Bubonic and Tyrannia feel a moment of relief before Maggot shows up and turns them into sheep to jump over his bed. Tyrannia bounds through the house, while Jacob and Mauricio sleep peacefully.
