- Ragnar presides over Yule festival, where obscure petty 'king' Harald invites himself, claiming his lover motivated him to rule all Norway. Ragnar grows apart from queens Anslaugh over the future of their cripple son and her jealousy of his manipulative Chinese slave Yidu, whom he sets free and starts an affair with. The berserker finally catches up with Bjorn, who kills him after a brilliantly improvised duel for refusing to betray who hired him, but Horik's royal ring may suffice as clue. Bjorn returns and the queen convinces Erlendur's wife to leave him for Bjorn and abandon her son. Just when a papal legate offered Gila's annulment, Rollo proves he learn the Frankish language and is great and consummation. Ecbert, Aethelwulf and Judith count on Northumbria to help regain Mercia for Kwenthrith, but Aella hates her and Ragnar's bastard as much as his daughter's deal with Ecbert. Bjorn stumbles upon the Berserker sent by Erlendur. They fight and Bjorn kills him and finds a ring with the Berserker. Then he goes to Hedeby and brings Torvi with him. However she is forced to leave her child with Erlendur but Lagherta promises to take care of the child. In Kattegat, the ambitious King Harald Finehair of a small territory offers alliance to Ragar to attack Paris with him. Rollo surprises Gisla since he has learned French language and they consummate their marriage.
