This show would have been great if the focus was more on the actual work that goes into renovating houses. There are plenty of great personalities and talent (Jeff comes to mind) that should be given more screen time than Kortney and her rather nebulous role.
Speaking of Kortney, it's often impossible to ignore how grating she can be. If she's not acting smug about picking pretty tilework, or staging she didn't organise, she is nagging Dave over the budget. It's ridiculous - whether pushed by producers or not - how peeved she gets when he spends money to fix structural problems, meaning that their $100k+ profit isn't as huge as it could have been. This is not even her at her worst; the shrieking sessions between her and the 'design assistant' when picking out granite or flooring are insufferable. I'd much rather see a structured walkthrough of a design plan than the occasional visit to a store punctuated by a lot of squealing. The whole process of design is portrayed to be a series of impulsive decisions made in 5 minutes, and and actual plan from start to finish would make for better TV.
One positive of the show is in the design, in that it doesn't revolve around hackneyed, contemporary ideas that every other flipper seems to adopt. It's good to see colour and a variety of styles instead of the usual grey-on-grey-on-grey.
All in all, the show can be entertaining if you're looking to switch-off and watch something that's not challenging. There could have been a fantastic show but it's dominated by Kortney's 'personality'. I'd happily watch Dave, Chance, Angela, Jeff, and construction workers actually do the work, instead of the hectic mess that is shown.
