Music Macabre: An Interview with Kendall Roclord Schmidt (2015)
*** 1/2 (out of 4)
This thirteen-minute interview with composer Kendall Roclord Schmidt is actually an incredibly entertaining one. Back in the 1980s as studios started to release movies, a lot of times they couldn't clear the rights to songs or the scores so people like Schmidt would be hired to re-do the scores to some famous movies. In this case he was hired by Orion to fix the scores to various AIP movies including CURSE OF THE CRIMSON CULT, MADHOUSE, SCREAM AND SCREAM AGAIN, PLANET OF THE VAMPIRES, SLAUGHTER'S BIG SCORE and several others. This interview has him talking about the entire process from getting hired to his thoughts on what needed to be done for the films as well as his thoughts on tampering with other people's work. This here is a subject that doesn't get talked about too much and I'm sure there are many people who weren't even aware that this type of stuff happened back in the day. Schmidt tells some wonderful stories about what was going on behind-the-scenes and this is certainly a great interview.
