- Stablemaster Roderick 'Rod' Barkham finds his employer Harry Wyham trampled by one of the stallions, who was spooked by a shot in the air. The mansion owner antagonized half the village by planning an equine racetrack, terminating tenant leases and threatening the annual fun fair, attended by Butch Nevins's 'death ride' performed by elder son Dale, whose puisne brother Sean is Harry's teen sister Beth Wyham's forbidden lover, the gun is found under 'his' ghost house. The cause of death was actually ketamine poisoning in beer, which he consumed as regular in Niall and Rowena Deeley's near-bankrupt pub, which he refused to sell to Harry, but she negotiated behind husband's back to pay for another IVF he doesn't even want while babysitting Amy. Veterinarian Clara Myerscough's daughter Jessica, his ex, concluded an amicable divorce but Harry has custody of daughter Amy, her antics incurred a restraining order. Harry's father Jasper runs the stud farm again, from which prize horses are stolen, which fits a patterns of thefts near fun fairs attended by the Nevins, who were never charged, later linked by evidence to Rod, who knew his wife Geri cheats on him with Butch, and to Dale, the next victim by stake. The ketamine may come from Jessica's surgery, where she's cattle prod-electrocuted and drowned after questioning Jes's maturity. Yet an old adoption changes the finale.—KGF Vissers
