Clever but a bit exaggerated

Warning: Spoilers
"Auld Lang Syne" is a movie about one New Year's Eve, when three befriended couples come together in a cabin to celebrate and remember the old times. As the evening unravels, more and more cuts separating the old friends become visible.

All in all this is a very decent movie. The production is of high value, you can clearly see that the whole team knew what they were doing. I always like the setting of friends coming together and sharing dark secrets, even though the concept is of course not really innovative. In this case, quite a few secrets get lifted, maybe even a few too many, since at a certain point it just becomes a bit unbelievable. I also didn't really like the attempts to turn the drama within the film into comedy, because thereby it loses some of its relevance. Nevertheless for a movie without the great budget, all the people involved delivered really great work and made this entertaining to watch.

If you can handle a bit of dramatic tension and look for a modern film about human relationships and how they develop, this is a movie you'll like to watch.

Don't Bother

Warning: Spoilers
20 minutes in, I found myself intensely bored. The thing is, this movie fails in getting you to care about these characters. They drop all these information bombs on you too soon before you even have any sort of idea of who the people are, and so when a couple announces that they are getting divorced, it really doesn't make an impact.

At minute 35 there is a really pathetic "nobody loves meeeEe!!!" breakdown which you might accept from a teenager but it is not cute when coming from a 30+ year old. It gave me second-hand embarrassment.

There is quite a bit of intense screaming, so do not watch this with headphones.

At minute 45 there is a cringe-worthy debate about the how much accounting contributes to society in comparison to theater. Boring.

Later on in the movie there is a childish outburst by the "rock star" part of the ensemble because his girlfriend tells him she doesn't like his music. But the guy majorly overreacts and acts like a 5 year old about it. It is not entertaining. This goes on for about 30 minutes so quite a while, and the guy does a lot of unpleasant off-key singing which, I don't know who thought that was a good idea.

Then the women proceed to get high and the men argue even more and smash pies on each other's face.

The movie ends the next morning with everyone forgiving each other and moving on even though nothing has been resolved. One character's problem is solved by another throwing money at it and that's it.

Overall, I am sad I watched this movie. It was a major waste of time, there was not one redeeming quality about it. I wish there was a review on here warning me about how truly awful it is.
