It's a decent movie
partywkristina17 December 2019
You have to watch the first 2 movies to get this one. It doesn't make any sense if you only watch this one.

It's not as good as the first but it still has the same concept and it continues the lessons of the gifts we receive when we give of ourselves.

Another Hallmark Gift
jrneptune11 June 2016
Warning: Spoilers
If you are into big budget action movies or serious drama and you don't like lighthearted fare then this might not be the movie for you. A Hallmark production directed by Joanne Hock. Decent visual quality with a limited budget. A movie with a message about values and personal responsibility.

The third movie in a series. Ultimate Gift and Ultimate Life were the first two. Logan Bartholomew reprising his role as Jason Stevens, from the second movie, and he has taken on the task of preparing Joey Anderson, played by Myko Olivier, for receiving his gift which has been passed on by his deceased grandmother, Miss Sally Mae Anderson, played by Raquel Welch.

Raquel Welch's performances in the movie are short but they are critical to the message of the movie. I enjoyed watching the performances of Myko Olivier and Logan Bartholomew.

Kelly is played by Katie McClellan who becomes a love interest for Joey. The movie also salutes the service of our veterans especially wounded veterans. I was surprised a few times when songs were playing and the dialogue could not be heard when people were obviously speaking. Guessing the director felt that the audience could discern what was going on and the dialogue was not needed in those scenes.

A good family movie and worth watching.

Decent movie, but be sure to watch the prequels first
pottsb292 October 2021
"The Ultimate Legacy" is the last movie of the Ultimate trilogy. The movie is OK, but not as good as the original. It is a Hallmark-quality movie, definitely not a blockbuster.

In order to understand everything that's going on you will need to watch "The Ultimate Gift" and "The Ultimate Life" before this movie, possibly more than once. If you haven't seen the prequels you will be missing a lot of information about the characters and may be confused when people, places, events, and concepts from the first two movies are mentioned. For this reason "The Ultimate Legacy" does not work well as a standalone film. Each film in the trilogy is missing some information that can be found only by watching all of them.

Painful...
lisa_susan16 November 2020
After watching "The Ultimate Gift", with Drew Fuller as Jason Stevens, the next 2 films were the ultimate let down. The 2nd, "The Ultimate Life" was tolerable as it went in to the story of Red Stevens more so than Jason, and I enjoyed that part of the story.

But this one was painful to watch. The acting was bad and the story was just full of holes. It was sadly lacking in the warmth of the original, and other than the handful of original cast members, it also lacked in talent. It was as though they were trying to hurry through the tale to get to the end... never mind that it seemed to be missing key details.

One step forward two steps back
MickyG3339 February 2024
6.1 stars.

This chapter of the saga devolves into a genetically inferior clone of 'The Ultimate Gift' (the first one). 'The Ultimate Life' (the second one) is much improved over the first, but 'The Ultimate Legacy' takes two steps, possibly three steps in the opposite direction.

The first had some very cheesy acting, but with superior editing, music and cinematography. The second episode utilized a lower budget, but showcased a great story, better writing, and acting, even though the actors were basically unknowns. This one consists of all the worst of the three. We have a few of the recognized actors with low quality production value and bad acting from the leads. The dialogue is also inferior to the first two movies, making this substandard in every way. Peaking around 7 stars in a few scenes, most of this is dull and slow, dipping down into the low 5's. I'll give it a 6.1. I should've stopped to stand pat after 'The Ultimate Life', but instead I pressed "play" and hit for a bust.

Ugh. I can't even.
bellsauf7 March 2018
I up picked up this movie because it had a great cast: Bill Cobbs, Raquel Welch, Brian Dennehy, Doug Jones, and Lee Meriwether (and what seemed to be a fleeting image of James Garner on a video screen). Unfortunately the bulk of the acting rests on the feeble shoulders of young thespian lightweights you're not likely to hear about anytime soon. Moody Actor #1 plays Joey, a spoiled rich kid who stands to inherit millions from his grandma's estate. The story sets about establishing that he's got "issues", and the young lawyers surrounding him are unprofessional schmucks who are unnecessarily cagey about the terms or "gifts" he has to fulfill in a year (a YEAR!) in order to receive that money. Supposedly Joey is a selfish ass but within the first 15 minutes of the movie he's already redesigning a memorial for his grandma and giving food to the homeless. So what was the jerky behavior that convinced everyone Joey was a pampered brat who needed to spend a year (a YEAR!) to prove his worth?

Moody Actor #2 plays one of the lawyers. He has a beautiful wife and daughter and laments that he can't spend more time with them because he has to babysit Joey and make sure he fulfills his "gifts". Well, dude, why don't you? Whenever his wife asks him to spend more time with his family he's not with Joey, he's at his office, pounding away on a keyboard and having absolutely no paperwork on his desk (gotta love the digital age).

Ditzy Actress plays another lawyer. She wears tiny skirts and heels so high they keep sinking into the lawn every time she crosses it to bring Joey a snack. The inevitability of her ending up with Joey is woefully obvious, and apparently her only purpose in the movie as you never really see her doing any legal work. Rounding out this flaccid cast are the Tolken Black Cast Member, John Davidson's son (looks like him, anyway), and Random White Guys.

I could go on but look, the point is, don't see this movie. Raquel Welch has 5 minutes of screen time, as does Cobbs, Dennehy, Meriwether and Jones. Oh, Doug Jones... I specifically picked up this title because in a recent interview he talked about how much fun it was for him to not have to wear a creature suit in a movie, yet even someone of his caliber is barely on screen. If the pitch for this film was "Let's have a weak story and hire a great cast that we don't use in favor of millennials you've never heard of", this is the result. Save yourself the frustration and rewatch "Hellboy 2".

Don't let a couple of these reviews make you miss a Great Movie.

There are spoilers here that you can read, but a couple of the people who wrote reviews seem to have missed the entire message of the movie. You owe it to yourself to invest a few minutes to judge for yourself.

No free leg from V.A. for wounded vet ?
JBThackery10 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Acting, directing, editing were impressive. So was a very original script.

Now, correct me if I'm wrong... but I tuned in about midstream, and it seems they were raising funds to get a war amputee a prosthetic leg? As pathetique as the V. A. is in providing timely medical care, they do still give such casulties free treatment. A visitor also came in the V. A. med center and undertook to start the vet's physical therapy based on his own ideas, as if the V. A. hadn't even thought of that. This blew the film off course from my perspective.

But great values and stirring situations rendered a watchable film.

Ultimate Legacy was a big letdown to me
lundquistcatina21 April 2022
When I heard that a third movie was being released in the ultimate series called Ultimate Legacy I expected it to be based on the third book in the series just like the first 2 movies were actually based on the first 2 books Ultimate Gift and Ultimate Life. Boy was that a huge disappointment. Instead The third and final movie was titled after the third book in the series but was not about the third book at all. Instead The final movie was actually based on the fourth and final book in the series which is titled Gift of a Legacy. I was expecting to see a movie about Jason and more lessons he had to learn about money, friends, and traveling since receiving his inheratence from Red. Instead I was watching a movie about the last book called Gift of a Legacy. The movie Ultimate Legacy should have actually been titled Gift of a Legacy after the book that the movie's storyline is all about. It turns out that a movie was never made about the third book and there most likely never will be especially since they gave that title to the movie based on the fourth and final book. So here's a warning to others. If you choose to watch this movie and have already read all the books in the series do not expect, like I did to see another movie about Jason learning more life lessons. Instead expect to see a movie about a different young man having to learn his own life lessons by having to complete his own gifts as set forth in her will in order to be able to claim his own inheratence after his grandmother was inspired by how Red had passed his inheratence on in his will only once all the gifts of lessons in life had been completed and learned. Jason is one of the people there to help guide the grandson as he learns the lessons in life chosen by his dearly departed rich grandmother.

A Tale of Redemption
mshelfer-0355020 July 2018
A story like The Ultimate Legacy has been told a million times over, but somehow, it all comes together near perfectly. The tale of a hot shot coming home to his traditional family is given a twist by asking him how he can redeem himself not just emotionally, but spiritually as well. The film is full of terrific performances, including Raquel Welch, Brian Dennehy, and The Shape of Water's Doug Jones. And the story has a terrific conclusion that left me with a smile on my face. I highly recommend this for families!

Disappointing
jeffhoeller31 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The Ultimate Gift was a great story and The Ultimate Life was endearing, yet not as grand as it's predecessor. The Ultimate Legacy, starts off cute, but "Ultimately" fails to live up to the "Legacy" as the main character Joey has no real defects of character as did Jason Stevens in the first movie. Basically it's a story of a perfect millennial playing with a trust fund of $5MM who doesn't really do anything to earn everything his grandmother left him and then some. To sum the movie up in one word = "Disappointing"

The gifts/steps Joey has to take are extremely short lived with the first one being a tiny garden he must build, the second being having to give away funds let for veterans and the rest being played out very quickly around a table meeting between attorneys and persons with vested interest in the estate of his late grandmother. The movie could have cut out about an hour of wasted yawns.

Pollyanna, where are you when we need you?
gasket36022 February 2022
I love sappy, feel good, Pollyanna type movies that have good moral values. This movie has neither. I've given it a 2 so that it will give me some room to revise it downward should I feel charitable. Forty five minutes into and I was still in the "huh?" category. The script could have been taken straight out of the files of Tammy Faye Baker where nobody could be enlisted to provide story continuity or serve as script editor. Find a colorized Shirley Temple movie. You'll be glad you did.

Family Support & Love Are Important but Be Prepared to Shed Tears!
robert23-119 January 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I would be remiss if I did not highly disagree with the current rating(5.9) given to this movie, an absolute joy to watch. Although the ending is a success based on the premise outlined at the beginning, it is the acting led by one of the best young actors of the day, Myko Olivier, in the role of Joey. He brings the same excellent performance as he did in the role of Erik in the TV movie: "Menendez: Blood Brothers". The supporting cast, led by 4 experienced and phenomenal performers - Raquel Welsh, a 1975 Golden Globe winner and a superb international star, Brian Dennehy one of the finest actors in Hollywood and best known for West Wing, Law & Order: SVU and of course his role as Willy Loman in the 2000 TV movie, "Death of a Salesman", Lee Meriwether, Miss America 1955 & perhaps best known for her role in Barnaby Jones with the late Buddy Ebsen. Rounding out the supporting cast is one of the finest African American actors, Bill Cobbs. It goes without saying that this movie is not to be missed especially with all the star power assembled. Kudos to the casting department. Hats off to the director and writers. Finally, listening to Beau Davison(Max) sing a beautiful song - which I assume he wrote as an established song writer- was well worth the wait.

Bad acting and disappointing. Just watch the first again
bwebservice25 October 2022
This movie is pretty bad. The main character is not believable. The writing is still and the acting is so bad he might as well be holding the script. His "issues" are so cliche -- listens to loud music, loud and rude, etc. And yet he has some moments of compassion that don't line up with that caricature. Overall, the characters in this movie are flat like cardboard. No dimension to them. Other characters serve little purpose in the plot. I watched the first 30 minutes and gave up on the movie. Usually if a movie is bad I still watch it through because the plot is just enough to hold my attention. This one started with no questions asked and the storyline was predictable. It's disappointing because the first movie "The Ultimate Gift" was so much better, one I would list as a "must see movie". This one is a hard pass...
