Demonte colony is a roller coastal ride with twist. Director R. Ajay Gnanamuthu scripted the movie himself. Main factor of the movie is that this is not a usual Horror movie like Ghost/Evil coming and scarring you inseconds and vanish off. This movie makes you the feel of the invisible Ghost who is haunting down in behind. 1:30 hours of movie is inside a house were we don't get bored nor the grips get loosed. Director cum screen writermakes us gelled on to the screen with the Scenes. One main part which i noticed is the background score by Keba Jeromiah, ( reference is from bernard herrmann Psycho) even though he had played a vital role in elevating the scenes. Am sure its a 2 time watch for everyone who are the fans of Horror thriller genere

Fair horror mostly with the narration style

It's a good break to the chain of horror comedies. There isn't much elements that will make u jump or scream from your seats but it will hold u in the edge of your seat in the second half.
The first is very average becoz of the over exposition of the characters which wasn't needed for the rest of the movie. It could have been used for adding more elements of horror instead of starting the story in the second half. With the good camera work the BGM is good to create anxiety but it's very normal, (And it's really not needed to tear the audience's ear drum even when its on the script).
With many of the horror sequences present in the narration are highly inspired from Hollywood and visual effects just supporting it and not lifting it up Demonte Colony is one time watch for sure!

The movie plot revolves around the demonte in chennai who was a french king man lives in the palace long ago which is it is in the alwarpet area.The story is about four people who goes to the demonte palace after more 100 years and one of them steals the demonte wife's necklace to make money.After that the four of them were strucked in their house by the demonte spirit and how they can survive or not is the one line story . Arulnidhi as shreni who done a hero and the producer of this movie done his job neat.The next one is acted in movies like soodhu kavum he done a character as vimal.The other two faces are new.Director done a script with neat screenplay.Vfx is superb in this movie and the BGM is also a great one.since we can feel little bit reference from 1408 movie but is OK.So overall is above average movie with neat in all aspects and fulfill in all aspects especially in the length of the movie
A must-watch horror with just the right touch of comedy!

Superb acting mixed with humour that actually fits, unlike what we see now nowadays where they just randomly throw something in that completely throws the viewer off due to the sudden, unexpected and not needed change of pace. There was a twist early in the film that completely had me shook and thinking like "How could I fall for that?".

Before actually reviewing let's quickly analyse the horror fever in Tamil movies. It obliviously seems to be hitting high this season. All horror movies have done well in the box office proving ghosts have become more bankable for producers than big stars. More over thesehorror flicks doesn't require high budget becoming producer friendly.All the recent flicks in this genre had more comedy and less scares but "Demonte Colony" come as the coin changer.
Director Ajay Gnanamuthu has made his debut with some perfect ingredients to present a creepy tale that might make you petrified. Haunted houses are always been most sought after subject when it comes to horror stories. Demonte Colony is a story four friends who lives in housing board in Pattinampakkam, Chennai and their dare to visit a house which is believed to be haunted for years. They come back with an evil spirit which puts them in a situation which has no escape. In short the after effects of visiting a ghost house. So the paranormal activity is the rest of the plot. For a ghost story the director has also ensured a quick period flashback with a killing spree.
This is a typical low budget movie with no A-list actors. In fact the story completely revolves around the four protagonists among which are the Mounaguru fame Arulnithi who has the boy next door image , Ramesh Selvan and other two where new faces. All four of them had equal screen space. The antagonist played by a Finnish actor who has the natural built and looks which can scare you enough.
The major highlight of the movie would be the length which runs less than 2 hours like a Hollywood movie. Screenplay was another plus which had harmless start and as it paced gradually ensures to spook you. The ultimate strength was the BGM and the art direction which entirely takes us through the supernatural world. VFX was good considering the budget of the movie. Mute light cinematography is what it takes to give you the paranormal mood. One last thing I liked about this film was it had no routine exorcisms exercises by priests. On the negative side the plot had lots of logic holes but what does logic have to in this kind of movie.
Verdict: Yet another haunted house flick which has all it takes to declare as a well made supernatural thriller.

Story: 3 guys who live a miserable, fateful life, that see's no end to their woes, on a night drop by a haunted mansion known as Demonte Colony. Legend says that a Portuguese landlord, in revenge for his wife's terminal illness, he suspects and starts killing all the Indian Servants in his household, and when people from the neighboring village comes to take revenge, he destroys the entire household along with him and his wife.
But one of the characters who took his 3 friends to the haunted house, finds the necklace used by Demonte's wife, and steals it as it is precious and it's worth in current market for 10 million rupees or more..
But happens with them after the robbery, kills them at the end, except for Sajith A.K.A sappa who delivers the chain back at Demonte's colony, which is why he survived and srini who escaped through the window passed away..coz he broke the rule to escape and he didn't return the chain ...
Pro's:
Brilliant Screenplay.. Excellent Cinematography...According to the budget given Thrilling Storyline, Excellent twists in the story...several unexpected sequences. Excellent Direction...well directed by a newcomer...Interesting show of level design and the background of the movie.
Brilliant thinking in making the character's house as the haunted location, making the necklace the source of the haunting.
Great acting shown by the main character and the comedian.
Focus was well given to the haunting rather than on the main character.
Removed all unnecessary factors and focused only on the main story No heroines, side story, extra stuff
Cons: BGM wasn't that effective, maybe due to budget, but movies such as pizza , which had excellent BGM.
VFX was also on the average..
2 extra characters was really not effective except at the end.
Overall: A brilliant movie in the routine boring Horror Genre of Tamil Cinema, this movie makes sense how money is not required heavily to direct a good horror story.

The word "horror" has become increasingly cheap in today's Tamil cinema with every week has a horror movie waiting to be released.Even though Muni stared it all its because of Pizza we are having whole lots of horror movies in Tamil cinema in last 5 or 6 years. Except 3 or 4 films remaining are mostly disappointing mainly because of Masala approach by not giving importance to the script and story. But this is where Demonte colony differ from other movies.
The story starts When four friends after getting drunk in a bar, decide to do something interesting and eventually break into a terrifying bungalow in Demonte Colony which is believed to be possessed by spirits. The next morning when they return home, a chilling turn of events takes them hostage and puts everyone's life at jeopardy. Will they come out of these unanticipated circumstances alive? This forms the rest of the story.
The movie doesn't have large cast so no place for female lead and comedians but the cast has done great job with their performance. Arulnithi again does an excellent job. He has a knack for choosing a good script hope he continues to choose good script in his future projects . All 3 other male friends with significant screen space also stand out.
Director Ajay Gnanamuthu has done great job with the script, though he takes time in establishing characters, things speed up once they enter the bungalow.Brilliantly written and well executed.
Cinematography by Aravind Singh is excellent. All the scenes are well shot with good color tone, angles and light. The way single room is captured with vivid lighting are absolutely brilliant.
Although BGM is unbearable in some scenes Keba Jeremiah has done good job with BGM.
While you will see some resemblance to 1408 and The Sixth sense it doesn't stop it from enjoying the movie.So if you got a chance to see the movie don't miss it.Best horror movie of the season

I might have rated this movie down, but please bare with me for my explanation. I would say the genre is now changing and movies have adapted to be funny, yet with a few jump scares. In that pattern, this is a flip-version. No fun at all, only scares. So good job movie in bringing the crux of the horror flicks back to us. Apart from that, the movie is very flat Honesty in movies will always strike a chord, but when you mix a lot of Hollywood movies and try to recreate the same scare, no movie no! That's just a cocktail of laziness. Seriously, make movies with a purpose. The premise was about a colony in Chennai, which was very intriguing, in that sense it should have been either a "Found footage" genre or a horror-based on real events. In the end it's neither of these two, which is very disappointing. If this was your story you might as well chosen any place to script your story, just does not make sense.
First, the camera speed, by god, the slowest i have ever seen, moving from one frame to other almost made me sleepy. I understand the movie is waiting for the peeking factor, but in the end it just makes it so boring. The second, the murders were so freaking confusing, here i think the director has made a mess of things. The plots were way too convoluted and it just keeps adding in more. Plot twists are good when done in moderation, you do more, people just lose interest and when the dots don't connect you are just making a mockery of your ignorance and you still think you are way too clever, wrong again.
I understand the purpose of the ghost, but why kill a astronomer for no reason? would his survival be of any difference? Make jump scares relevant to the plot, don't make the plot revolve around jump scares, that is just a weak script. I think many people like this movie specifically because they weren't expecting a total horror, rather they were in for the horror-comedy, which has been floating for years now. The major up-selling factor is the actors, who have made a really phenomenal effort, much appreciated. Apart from that i would say its a self-convoluted movie which does not know where to go and decided to end when it can't go the distance.

I love international horror movies, Turkish, Russian, Japanese, chinese, korean, Thailand and so on. With one or two exceptions, I have yet to see a remotely scary Tamil / Indian film. I'm not looking for extravagant CGI or makeup, just halfway decent acting, storyline, script, directing. This has nothing except the standard idiotic comic relief that does nothing for the story. The cookie cutter song and dance scenes that add nothing to the story. Musical rip off from the movie Psycho AND a very badly recreated video clip of the movie Ju On. I've seen better 0 budget films made by first time film students or highschoolers. Skip it.

I wasted nearly 2 hours is my review. The story, however, had some thrills, but the acting and directions sucks. It is nothing more than a mediocre movie with no expression from any of the actors. The hero in the movie better not continue acting as a profession, because acting has no relationship with him. An average Joe could have done a far better performance compared to him. He is expressionless other than his bulging eyes like Gobbels; the director should have made him the real ghost in this movie. Other than looking at each other without any expression all the actors in the movie look like a deer caught in a headlight. If you want to waste your time, please watch this useless movie. There are many Korean or Asian horror movies that have a better storyline and acting. Skip the movie is my verdict.

Having seen dozens of horror films over the years, its important to view every movie independently to avoid any form of bias.
And though there were lifts from other horror films here and there, the end product was still pretty fine.
The background is told once at the start to the audience and then all over again among the characters in between, this could have been avoided. Also there was no point going into so much depth when there was no further link to the present happenings. Alternatively they could have tried to make one.
That apart, it moves fast, 4 losers, their (mis)adventures and subsequent repercussions. The horror doesn't take place at Demonte park but next day at their place. In the room, not much of ghost presence, but still gripping.
*Potential Spoilers*: Should have shown some link to the astrologers death. Also in the end, the final guy getting out of the room and then dying in a freak accident didn't go down well. Kinda irrelevant or not adding up. *End spoilers*
Still all said and done, quite a good effort, worth a watch and keeps you engrossed.

Despite being slow paced at the beginning and despite being a low budget movie, the story was well written. I was looking for a good horror movie to watch & found this. It's really nice movie. It was intense towards the end. I just love the ending. This movie is worth watching but it is slow paced until we reach to the main part, the central focus point of the movie. There were unnecessary scenes to lengthen the movie. Keeping that aside, the story is very short, could have been completed in 45 minutes or 1 hour. Still, this is one of the best , not the greatest, but one of my favourite stories to watch in horror genre. It is worth watching but with skip button as there are unwanted scenes included. So, if you trim them from the movie, this is still worth watching. My review is 5 out of 10. This is not a bad movie at all, you just need the forward button to skip some scenes that were unnecessarily added. That's the only fallback in this movie. You will love the story.

The movie seems like made by college students. The movie sets and the story line has a cheap feel. The background story of the horror villa just goes in thin air. The acting is mediocre and amateurish.
In the end there are so many loose threads and unanswered questions. What happens to the hauted villa? How did the pandit die? Why one of the friend died earlier than others? Why there wasa bi statue of Jesus when none of them were chritians? Whats the significance and why was the main actor able ot get out and still die?
