In the opening scene, Karen is trying to get backstage at a Mickey Ratt concert at the Whiskey a Go Go, but the bouncer denies her. The bouncer is played by Stephen Pearcy, the lead singer of the Sunset Strip-based glam metal band Ratt, whose original name was Mickey Ratt (although, by 1982, when the concert supposedly took place, the band had already shortened its name to Ratt).
The show is set supposedly in the early 80s. When the pilot episode ends the camera pans back showing the Billy idol concert date as August Friday 13. The only Friday 13 in August is in 1982. White Wedding, Dancing With Myself and Hot in the City were all released by then but Rebel Yell and Eyes Without A Face had not been written and recorded by summer 1982.
